If you live in either Canada or the northern states, for the next week or two (starting today), Mother Nature is going to be a bitch to you all. It’s going to be so cold, it’s dangerous, and it’s going to be a foot of snow. Right now in Chicago (at 5:17 AM), it’s -7 with a wind chill of -25. They’re talking another major snowstorm Monday and then it’s even worse. Next Wednesday, they’re talking lows at -15 (not wind chill), which could be record cold. It’s going to be dangerous out there for the next week or two. Be ready for the polar vortex for those in the north, because it’s going to be a bitch for a long while.
I don’t understand this s~~~ty weather we’ve been getting. We had a good thing going in December and half of January where it didn’t snow and the highs were over 40. But all of a sudden nature flips the switch and we can’t go one day without it either snowing or being very cold. Nature must be a woman, because she’s being a bitch!
Good thing I don’t have to go anywhere for the next 2 or 3 weeks. But what difference does that make; my freaking car won’t start! Yesterday, attempting to go the grocery store, and I press the button and the engine won’t start. I tried for 10 minutes. I don’t know what it is. I can’t be the battery, because there’s power inside on the dome lights and headlights, the battery is not even 2 years old and it gets very little usage. It wasn’t that cold in the garage. So I don’t know. Good thing I don’t have go anywhere anytime soon.
The people I really sorry for right now are the people who have to work in this f~~~ing cold, and the kids who have to wait for the school bus. My poor father has to work outside for 12 hours. I told him yesterday that when the weather gets to the point it’s dangerous to be out, school and business needs to close. But my dad said, well if I don’t go to work, I don’t get paid. I don’t think what my dad makes today and next week is enough to not consider his health and safety.
So guys if you live in the north, keep warm, because the cold is going to be real bad today and the next week. Just keep warm, turn on the space heater, eat some hot soup, drink some hot tea or hot chocolate and keep warm.
Seriously, if it can get this cold in Chicago this time of year, how in the hell do the people up in Canada and Russia live with it, because it’s far worse for them?

Think this is a but colder than the ones we had in the late 90s. Could be different. Know cold fronts were controlled by the jet stream. Not sure how the vortex is different.
Wonder if it may also be related to the magnetic pole shift. Which is something that has happened before just not during recorded times. Have heard a theory that the mini ice age in the 1600 to 1700s may have been related to something similar.
The theory I have heard about it and why I mention it here is that when the poles move the artic tends to stay centered over them.
Following relevant info. The old European explorer maps that have the coastline of the artic shown may be from a time when that area wasn’t necessarily a frozen waste like it currently is which would line up in the mini ice age time.
Disclaimer if it did happen during that time they weren’t using a lot of electric or magnetic devices. They used sextants for naval navigation, which were unaffected by magnetic disturbance.

If its under -30c its a mild, if somewhat irritating winter. Usually -32c or colder is the norm, and that does not include “wind chill”.
FFS most weather is reported from urban areas where the core temperature is warmer due to the f~~~ing radiant heat generated by cities. Not out in the middle of butt f~~~ nowhere where its actually colder. Add into that the constant changes in air current speed and direction that most cities do NOT experience and guess what it changes the f~~~ing climate NORMALLY.Pussy Language from the Global Warming homos.

I’ve worked in parts Canada where the truck engines were left running 24/7. You didn’t want to shut down a diesel in those temps. When that wasn’t possible, large propane heaters were needed to preheat the engines before start and tiger torches were need to thaw the brakes. It would be so cold that the differential gears in the axles would freeze…

I tell y’all what. I was stubborn and thought to ride my bike last Saturday when there was a “cold front.” It was windy 25mph with wind chill 28 degrees. (That is severely f~~~ing cold for Dallas so shut up!)
As a result of riding my bicycle 15 miles through that s~~~, I CAUGHT A COLD. It wasn’t fun and it set me back 4 days! No exercise and couldn’t do s~~~ except eat cinnamon rolls and watch Star Trek! Okay, that part was fun but still, if you dont need to be out in it, stay inside! Getting sick sucks.

I was thinking about that too. “supposedly” we’re due for one of those. I don’t think it’s gradual either because the Geology rocks show the magnetism just reverses. Perhaps it leads up to it, then finally FLOPS over and changes suddenly with minimal effects.
I do know this though, the Lunar Nodal cycles and the Earth’s own Nutation … nothing is certain. There isn’t a definite pattern in what the continental plates are up to. While we can measure our spin well, we’ll never know what’s coming because underneath us it’s total chaos.
Its sounds so alarmist, I know…but we’re due for a natural s~~~show on par with some of the big ones. Perhaps it will unify the species in this uncertain, unorganized, post-industrial, wasteful global society we live in. We need a good nuclear winter to sort out the 3rd world MUSLIME savages for good!

The weather since i was a kid has changed but i believe in long term weather patterns .
People make money . At the moment there is ment to be a drought that is affecting the dairy industry . My argument is if they didn’t get rid of all the local dairy farmers along the coastal regions there would be no drought effect . Alot of big companies own the farms now and use alternate names . Our summers have always been hot that hasn’t changed . Winter here is much much different to what it once was . It used to be colder and wet . Our seasonal thunderstorms are not the same there used to be more and it would always come threw just after the sun went down . Nearly set your watch to them . Now no where near as many you just get a build up of cloud and it blows over .
The heat differs . Like in SYDNEY when they have a heat wave if i went there i wouldn’t notice the heat as much . Its a dry heat .
Its hot as people pray for rain . But when it rains it turns to steam making s~~~ worse . Got two fans on me and my pillow i have to keep turning over from sweat . Normally i would go jump in the surf but not now i am a bit f~~~ed up . Night swims . You get surfers that will surf at night .
All the schools of fish are gone our marine environment has just been f~~~in raped . We use to get large pods of dolphins and you would see them often .
Jungles and rainforests are a f~~~in mess with obnoxious weeds . You can see the strain to from lack of rain . I miss the rain season where the days would be like night time .
People . The most destructive . Greed .
WEATHER MEN . I would take the pepsi f~~~ing challenge with them for my area . There is a place you go to and if you can see certain thing from that point it will rain with in 3 days . Its pretty freaky accurate . Not many people know about it .
Lucky c~~~s wish i was freezing at least you can rug up . Go stick ya heads in the oven and breath in , thats what it was like at a place i was at last week . Some places the tar on the road melts .

Yaeh I live in Chicago – Northwest side. Walking to the blue line this morning nearly froze my b~~~~ off. The ice on the sidewalks froze solid in my neighborhood. No freaking salt can melt that s~~~! Bundle up, grab a drink and watch some old movies.

Well if you think today was bad, we haven’t felt nothing yet. until you see what is in store for next week. They’re saying it’ll get so cold Tuesday and Wednesday, it could be for the history books. When I went out to get the mail at 3:00ish, I screamed “MY GOD! IT’S F~~~ING COLD!” But then again, I walked outside wearing summer shorts and a sweat jacket with no shirt under. It’s not a far walk, so no big deal. I’m sitting in my man cave with the space heater on and I just ate some hot homemade vegetable soup I made last week and I’m feeling good.
Seriously, I rather be in Australia than Chicago right now. I’ll take their heat wave over sub-zero cold anytime. I love it hot.

Statistically right now worldwide:
The poorest most under developed countries and economies are in geographical areas that have warmer climates.
That is no accident and their are multiple factors in addition to the type of geographical environment but that is the main factor.
I will admit this one time only that I think climate is changing however I do not believe for an instant that mankind had anything to do with it; on any level. Human are so dreadfully small in the face of planetary forces and the solar wind. It’s laughable to propose we did anything in the last 150 years that caused anything: Yes I know about leaded gasoline and poisoning the ocean, Yes I agree humans waste a ton of food, chop down forests like crazy and burn gasoline at an astonishing rate. STILL. I took Geology and I understand the scale we’re talking about. The solar wind and the Earth’s own cycles are boss. The human impact is nothing but a tiny fart in a hurricane. We could deliberately try to kill the ocean’s animals and set off 500,000 nukes all over the globe. In 10 years you wouldn’t of noticed… The Earth goes on doing it’s thing despite whether humans would have existed or not. Science backs this up. All that man-made global warming s~~~ is BUNK science… I do feel bad for the coral reefs though. I think we could do better for ourselves but I dont think politics and regulation is the answer.
They try to sell me on climate change when every f~~~ing woman makes $80K a year and drives her own personal Crossover SUV$$$$ That is a massive waste of money, a huge impact on the limited resources and man-power we have so dont bulls~~~ me. WOMEN are way worse than global warming.
Meh, I’ll worry when it hits Minnesota cold. Last vortex it hit Minneapolis at -35F.

I’m looking forward to it. I just waxed up my skis. I have a nice thick beard that keeps my face warm in sub zero temperatures. If it gets bad enough I can finally take a day off work and have some fun in the snow.
This winter really sucked so far. Warm and balmy all December and no snow. I hate these warm winters. They had to cancel all our hockey tournaments and postpone them to February because there was not enough ice after New Years.

WOMEN are way worse than global warming.There have been 5 mass extinctions of life on plant earth in the 4.2 billion years it’s been around. One mass extinction wiped out over 90% of all life except for small protozoa creatures in the ocean. During the 4.2 billion years the earth has heated and cooled in dramatic swings often with periods of extreme oxygen enrichment and other times high CO2. All of this is done naturally without human involvement.
I don’t believe in Man Made Global Warming because modern temperature recording data only goes back until the year 1880. 139 years of data in 4.2 billion isn’t enough of a time span to get people alarmed about. Sure they have core sample data from ice fields in Antarctica going back 1000 years or so but still you need to look at temperature swings in spans of hundreds of thousands of years.
Lastly I don’t believe in global warming because there have been instances in both the UK and that NOAA Labs in Colorado where leaked emails from scientists working on global warming have indicated altered data to suit a given result. It’s simple really… if the data doesn’t prove overwhelming global warming then there is no problem, thus no more grant funding or need for electric cars etc… If you are unsure of the intentions of someone just follow the money.
I agree with you Quell. I believe they stopped calling it ‘global warming’ because there is a mountain of data showing colder temperatures everywhere! Harsher winters and more hurricanes and some glacial melt is nothing new… there are droughts some years and floods other years. That is the way of planetary weather…
Most of them really do believe the hoax of climate change and man-made warming. But the people who are smart enough to know better but still peddle that BS because they truly believe that the end justifies the means. (Meaning they make it political and they believe in disrupting ‘big oil’ and forcing mass taxation and regulation to FORCE people into ‘allegedly greener’ lifestyles).
Its true, HUMANs are disorganized and wasteful. But to say we’re harming the Earth or causing the weather is asinine. LYING TO PEOPLE IS NOT A SOLUTION TO GET THEM TO LIVE MORE RESPONSIBLY. Thats what it comes down to for some of the people that know better; they believe in ‘the good of the lie…’ the truth is there is no good in a lie figuratively or literally.
Electric cars are made with dangerous batteries that are filled with expensive and corrosive TOXIC chemicals and acid. That s~~~ is lethal and it costs a fortune to produce. THEN, when the battery goes bad, they just bury it in a hole in Africa. How the f~~~ is that “green” ? Let’s just call a spade a spade, Tesla is a $100,000 fun toy, that’s it! It’s not saving Earth. Earth is fine.
Same with recycling technologies. The biggest CON ever. Give us your plastic bottles and aluminum. Why? It’s not to save the Earth bitches, its because it’s cheaper for pepsi and coca cola to buy plastic and aluminum from the recycle plant than it is to harvest it themselves. All you do when you recycle is increase big corporation’s margin!

That is all the proof you need right there it’s all bulls~~~.You want to talk about the Ozone Layer? Fine. Air Pollution? Sure!
Electric cars are fun. Can they be more cost effective? Sure. But is it more cost effective then any run of the mill I.C.E. car? On paper it sure seems like it. But most people don’t use their cars as local delivery vehicles. A Pizza Joint would be the prime place for fast charge 480V electric car chargers and cars. The post office would be the best place to have them, and they tried them out, but the cost just never made sense nor did the range. And you really need to be religious on the charging. Something most government Post office fleets don’t do.
And the cold really does affect operation. That’s why in many climates, Tesla’s just don’t cut the mustard unless you got a serious 240v charging station.
One of the best reasons why Diesel just doesn’t cut it for most consumers in the USA has to be the fact that in some places, the diesel fuel does freeze or Gel up. That then requires some serious power to keep the fuel from doing that. And of course adds more cost to the engineering of the car. Winter and Summer fuel blends etc.

Now THIS is interesting! Synthetic gear oil (75w) is good down to -40 does not seem to have a problem in Cold temps. What does surprise me is if the gears are freezing up, that means that there is some other issue at play. I’m kind of surprised they don’t use heaters on these rigs, or just use a lower viscosity lubricant. Or just use a dry lubricant.
