I’m a big fan of the Angry Video Game nerd, and one of his posts lead me to watch this, which was also rather amusing. Afterwards I started thinking, what was the biggest pile of s~~~ that you ever played?
We often talk about games that are must-haves, but what was one that you not only gave up on, but actually wanted to smash to bits when you were done? And what did you hate about it?
For me it’s a toss-up between Mortal Kombat Mythologies or Forbidden Siren 2. The premise, graphics and cover of the latter looked awesome when I first saw it, but the gameplay turned out to be bland, pointless and confusing as s~~~ – it was impossible to tell where you had to go, and I got motion sickness trying. Mythologies was just criminal. As you may have heard, the boss fights are unreasonably cryptic – they can only be won via methods that you’d never be able to figure out on your own. In fact it’s been said, and rightfully so, that you’d probably never finish the game at all without the help of a guide. You constantly get stuck on levels, until you have no choice but to go online and look up a walkthrough. When you find out the answer, the response tends to be “How the f~~~ are you supposed to know to do that?”
For example, after you’ve defeated the wind god, he forms a tornado that will kill you if you get sucked into it. The only way to avoid this is to run to the left and press down when you reach the wall.

NBA 2K (The Whole Series)The S-Nes Luigi game. That was not a game, that was a lesson in boredom and frustration.

Anonymous24I am a AVGN fanatic as well Constantine! I am a bit older, and played E.T. as a kid on Atari, it was a nightmare without a game guide for a 9 year old kid. So for me it is E.T. for sure…
I think I have watched about 90% of AVGN’s stuff. I have a decent size collection of vintage stuff, and an even bigger collection of VHS as he does… I wish I had a basement like his that he calls “the video store” in one episode… I do own some rare stuff…
Oh god, AVGN was my go to when I was 12-16. Rewatching old episodes while eating a box of Bagel Bites, miss those days.
I still watch every new episode of his.
But my least favourite video game?
Anything Call of Duty. I loved the idea of customizing my own weapons, especially pistols, and being a badass. But I every match I played I’d end up with a 1:1 KDR or less. I would die, spawn, run around looking for people to kill and then die again, an impatient and endlessly repeating cycle. And every single time I died, I would get angrier and angrier until I just ragequitted. This typically happened on the third or fourth match I played that day. I find that now it’s better to just abstain from that s~~~, and stick to realistic shooters like Red Orchestra 2. At least with that, anything you do is your own fault!
Brother, we need to stick together.
The last video game I played was Need for Speed, 1997.
And I loved the hell out of it. And that’s why I’ve not played one since. I could see becoming addicted to them, so I purposely stay away from them. But every time I read posts like this from you guys, I can feel my will power breaking down. Damn you guys. Damn you all to hell!

Should try the 3rd(’98), 4th(’99) and 5th(’00) ones. You’ll probably find them considerably better than the first two.
I honestly can’t think of which one is my least favorite. If I don’t like a video game, I stop playing it, and it’s really hard to make a comparison between games I don’t play to find the one I like the least.
It’s kind of like women. I can’t think of any that I like the least. I certainly don’t hate any of them. I simply don’t bother to play with any of the ones I don’t like.
ECCO The Tides Of Time and Sonic 3D Blast both for the Genesis, Haf-Life and it’s because the game’s movement made my stomach feel like throwing up. In fact, I don’t like games that give me motion sickness. Some of the Resident Evil games sometimes does that to me. I usually eat a fruit or vegetable to calm my stomach down.

Good answers guys, it’s handy to know what I don’t need to waste money on.

Yeah I’ve been told that one of the biggest problems with E.T. was that it was released to the public blatantly unfinished. Is it true that at some point there’s a pit in the floor that you cannot escape from? Somebody told me that you fall down it constantly, and if you die later on in the level, you end up back in it again.

Oh cool. This is a big of a long shot, but do you have Girl School Screamers? I’ve been looking everywhere for that one. Not that I’d be able to do borrow it from you if you did, it would just be neat to know that it still exists on VHS somewhere. And that is a sweet set-up that Nerd has. The low ceiling in particular is a nice touch. It almost looks like the downstairs library that the boys go into during the first scene of Ghostbusters.
Speaking of which, what they say when they’re examining the GB stand – “Goodnight sweet prince” and “You gotta save this stuff, because it’s gonna disappear one day” – certainly holds even more relevance now. Siggh.

Hmm, that would be a close tie between two games (from the mid/end 90’s and early 00’s), I forgot the names, but this is what I remember:
PC game where you couldn’t do s~~~. You were in some sort of spaceship, and no matter which button you clicked on screen, a warning said “Oh no! Macchu Picchu!” and that was f~~~ing it, lol. Had to trade in C&C Tiberian Sun because it required a 166 MHz processor where I had a 133 one and came back with the abovementioned piece of garbage. I was 13 or 14 and hoped it didn’t matter too much…
PC game that revolved around first/third shooter combat as one of the Egyptian gods. Massive battlefield (albeit just a couple of pillars and floaty things) and even after half an hour I never saw any computer controlled enemy. Got hit by one once, but when I turned around, there was nothing to be found. Felt pretty cool to walk around as a triggerhappy Anubis, though.

Mine is Fuse by Insomniac Games. While I play both Sony games and PC games, I wanted to utilize my PS3 more. I bought a copy so that I could play it with my brother, but it ended up being generic and boring as hell. In 2011, it was known as Overstrike and had a much more interesting concept and a unique character design, much like Overwatch. Two years later, EA s~~~ted all over it in order to please the Call of Duty market, and it became boring fast. I regret buying the game.

good thread
Would have to say Armorines on the N64….I expected that game to be the game equivalent of Starship Troopers crossed with Turok but it was a load of s~~~. In those days I had no money as I was in school so the games I bought had to last me a while and I bought that crap – wasn’t happy!
Back when I was a kid we rented a nes, a very rare occurrence. And the game we rented for it was Mag Max. it was quite the disappointment.
