College really isn’t necessary anymore. You have on the job training and you also have the internet to teach you most skills you need.
Further being a doctor is rife with lawsuits and liabilities, taxes, and goddamn golddigger threats. I think the only thing that is required is engineering type of degrees, which are extremely competitive, and you have to pray you don’t get f~~~ed with a false accusation that will destroy you. There is absolutely no reason for a man to go to college anymore and deal with a hostile environment and debt trap. I used to want to get a Masters degree, but seeing how useless my current bachelors degree has been, the money I could have saved paying all the tuition, I sure as f~~~ don’t want or see a need for a Masters.
how ironic this generation of girls are going for the psychology degree, when they are the most phsychologically disturbed group of young women the world has ever seen.
And to think, lots of them want to become “child psychologists” … this is a nightmare from the depths of hell waiting to happen. The mental health system is already a clogged toilet, imagine what it will be in 10 years.
People like to throw out stats about how College educated kids tend to make more money over a lifetime. However, is it really because they went to college, or because people who go to college tend to have more solid work ethic and character (possibly)? I’d argue it’s the later.
There are also a ton of folks out there with college degrees that are completely useless. They continue to hold a job because it’s too expensive to fire them, and they get hired because they know how to pass an interview.
I don’t understand why people get student loans. It just doesn’t makes sense. Grants, I get, but a loan is just a very bad gamble, worse than marriage. People are living longer and retiring later, so if you can’t afford college, work until you can afford it. You will gain valuable work and life experience and avoid the soul crushing debt. You may even find a career path you love that won’t require a college degree.
I have a engineering degree, and the only reason I have it because I never considered not having a degree, I was math/science oriented, and my brother was going for IT and I wanted to be different. Of course, I ended up in IT anyway. My parents paid for it, and I appreciate it, but I also felt obligated to make good on their investment even when I didn’t want to anymore.
I won’t push my kids too hard towards college, I know too many happy adults who didn’t go to college. My plan right now is to help them get funding for a career for a few years after HS. I don’t care what it is, as long as they are moving towards it with realistic expectations.
Ok. Then do it.

Anonymous11I’m in IT, but my degrees are not though one of them trained me for it quite well especially when I have to identify and solve arcane problems with no documentation.

I feel you on this. The only reason why I’m getting my MBA is because my tuition is covered. I’m considered a ward of the state, and so any public, in-state institution is free for me. Otherwise, I would’ve gotten into the military or a trade.
Fuck bitches... literally and metaphorically
As someone who went to university, I can attest to this. I was lucky enough to get a good paying job, but I went through some serious hell to get there during my final year. I had several instructors (females) who practically abused me psychologically and verbally. They knew I had to kiss their ass to get the degree, and they really f~~~ing took advantage of it. Now that I’ve already got my job, if I ever see them again I would RELISH the opportunity to verbally tear them apart. Problem is, they have a lot of connections so I still can’t p~~~ them off. But to this day, I still f~~~ing hate them. I don’t know how I would react if I saw them again.
But, I know that I should not keep such hate in my mind. But that’a for a different discussion. Point is, I gave everything my very best, did everything I could to be an honest, hard working student in school, and these bitches treated me like trash. I wonder if it really did have something to do with me being a man.
That being said, I also worked with women (who weren’t affiliated with the school) who thought I was a great student and respected me greatly. So I don’t know if it’s a university thing or not…

The one thing I have been noticing is the lack of knowledge and ability of the younger guys coming into the trades. I truly believe this has a lot to do with no father being at home.
No father, no family and no community to support a young child means that the boy has no access to technical skills or abilities. As we know, it’s about repetition and muscle memory.
If no one every tells you “Lefty Loosey – Right Tighty” then you never know. How many kids are sent looking for left handed screwdrivers and then decide to never ever enter the shop area again.
A plug for Big Brothers and other types of mentoring programs. While it does support the single mother, it does often help the boy even more.

The best value college near me is the local community college. They offer a two year RN program, and a variety of 2 year engineering technology degrees of which the staff is great about helping people get internships, which definitely help with job prospects upon graduation. They also offer some certificate programs that are two years or less that can lead to decent pay, like x-ray tech, dental hygenist, and various computer and coding certs. The place can also save you a boat load of cash if you just want to go bang out a bunch of classes than transfer to a state school for a 4 year degree since the CC courses cost less than half as much. Of course…you don’t get to live on campus and party for 4 years.
I think another great route to go other than community college programs like those or a trade for any of the other guys reading on here is maritime colleges. I know some guys who made tons of money working in shipping…you go out fora month or 3 months or whatever, but you can make like 400-500 bucks a day every day for that time and since you are mostly on a boat you’ll have very little time to spend it, then you can take a couple months off or whatever then do it again when you feel like it. Yeah…that lifestyle isn’t for everyone…but you can literally roll into a six figure job 1 day after graduation if you want. Even if you hate that job/lifestyle…it could only temporary. You’d be walking away from the maritime academy with an engineering degree, and since ships are basically mini power plants you also basically have power plant experience, and if you can score a job with a large utility you will make an above average wage.

I think I heard some stat on the radio the other day that said 1 in 3 people couldn’t change a light bulb. I just thought…wtf? You think something like that is just common knowledge but apparently there are a lot of completely brain dead people out there.
People like to throw out stats about how College educated kids tend to make more money over a lifetime…
I heard that argument when I was in high school, and I thought ‘Hey wait a minute, isn’t all of the career-length data from people who turned 18 during Vietnam?’
It’s sophomoric to compare poor people who spent their late teens and early 20s being shot at in the jungle to rich kids who spent those years in school and say ‘college makes you rich.’
Also, do you want to learn science from people who shamelessly molest statistics?
Speaking as a DME technician, I can honestly say that college is a spider web of s~~~!
I literally learned how to repair wheelchairs, knee walkers and various medical equipment on the job and not in some asswipe’s classroom!
Trade schools and “on the job” training is much cheaper than swimming out of university with debt that you’ll have to work yourself into the f~~~ing ground trying to pay back.
It’s not feasible.Much better to learn some real stuff through trade-school, than being indoctrinated into an idiot through college.

An added benefit is the lack of females in these areas too so you’ll be working around men mostly.
But if too many men go this route, you can bet that the feminists will push to get women to enter into it because the idea that men are doing things with little to no women around distresses feminists like nothing else.
