I’m going to disagree with @KM slightly. Intelligence and personal accountability are not correlated. What the boy did was dumb, and there are plenty of average to highly intelligent people that lack any personal accountability.

Can you imagine if this was reversed, and it was a girl who jumped in the water for a boy? She wouldn’t have approached him first off, she would have jumped to get his attention. It’s his fault for not noticing her.

She then would have lied and said she fell in. There should have been a railing. And someone should have removed the dangerous alligators in the first place. She would be suing for sure. The media would then blame all men for forcing women to do such ridiculous stunts.

Interesting contrast between this event and one posted several months back in which a croc went after some girl in a pool and the guy took flak for not interposing himself between her and the croc. Granted the women was not in jeopardy in this case but it is still interesting how the perception is skewed between the events.

So he is regarded as an idiot for jumping in to impress the girl—but if he had jumped in to SAVE the girl (same stupid act) NOW he would have been hailed as a hero. Totally illogical.
