This is my first post so not sure how to go about it aha

What I have learnt being the lone male in a workplace. While I admit, 8 years in the vast world that is retail isn’t very long it has provided me with a sound knowledge of what to take forward, and educate my friends who are all now leaving their degrees and looking for jobs.

While I can’t tell them much on the economic development of a nation or what properties of rock formed a certain beach line as a geology degree would. What I can tell them, from several experiences in the “professional” world, whatever you do, do NOT work for a female boss.

What it does become is a descent into an endless abyss of back-biting, passive-aggressiveness, lies, envy, intrigue, subterfuge, manipulation, and drama.

The “office” literally becomes a reality TV show. Similar to the sh*t you see over MTV of how strong women are paving their way in the workplace. Once it begins you have to make alliances, throw people under the bus, kiss ass also throw in some backstabbing. Ghosting I am afraid isn’t an option, nor is being just the “quiet type” they want you to join in, they want different cliques and if you don’t you best pack you bags and leave.

I never set out to go against the flow. I don’t enjoy trouble. Like most people, I want to be happy. If I don’t understand you, though, and I don’t see the logic of what you tell me to do, then I am going to ask you questions sadly female bosses don’t like questions they want to be blindly followed and if you don’t then get prepared for the biggest sh*t storm of your life.

One of the worst parts with my job is that the two Bosses (Manager and Assistant) lived together, and of course this brought its own branch of unique lunacy with it. as just a small example of what used to happen

    – The entire group went to the pub, got drunk and then went and got piercings came back 5 hours later..
    – Regular discussions of period flows and how their partners were performing in bed
    – Manager and Assistant both took full day off as one of them might have been getting dumped.

Now I did what any idiot would and tried approaching them about this, it was met with – well girls will be girls and you’re a male you’re used to working longer than us anyway so why do you care.

Ask yourself not that you need to what would happen if a male worker or male boss had tried this??

I can tell you what would happen as it did to a new guy who started with us and was fired after his second day because he had a beer with his lunch( he was seen by our boss who had gone out for a joint) I have joked many a time about writing a book but who would even care.

Makes you shake your head in disgust and question why did we ever bother?

Any other stories of female work environments to share?

    Dont blush baby

Personally, if that was done to me, with them leaving me to work, while they goof off. I would leave fifteen minutes after they did. With the store left with open doors.

I would wait fifteen minutes, to make sure they were where they wanted to be, and they had already sat down. Then, I would leave a phone message with the boss that I would quit and gone. And since I do not have the keys, I cannot lock up.

Now, I would be out of a job, but I would ruin their day, because they have to rush back before someone walks in a steals something. And it would be worth it.

I worked with around 4 or 5 women and there was just one other male there and he was one of those providers who’s wife openly hates his guts. It was a constant drama of incompetence and back biting. Secret meeting held where they talked about how so-and-so is a real problem. The next week they talk about how they are faultless and don’t know why so-and-so is angry even though they themselves had spared no expense to go out of their way to help them. Then they all forget about what happened a few weeks ago because a new drama is going on of such importance that a new group forms.

I work in a hospital where it’s impossible to avoid them. Now thru the years they have been few cool ones. I worked with one of them for 10 years other than that I would say if you could avoid it avoid it. I do limit my interaction with the ones that I don’t know and the ones that I do know I watch what I say. I don’t respond to sex jokes as a matter of fact I acted like Sheldon Cooper when it comes to this. I pretend I don’t know what they are talking about. You don’t make friends with them and don’t look for booty calls or even relationships at work. I learned about the relationship one the hard way back when I was 19. It’s never a good idea and always to avoid.
