This is p~~~ing me off big time. One my female family member took the bait with microsoft scam claiming she had viruses. Of course they wanted $300 to fix the issue. So basically she left the idiots remote onto her computer with everyone’s tax returned that just was recently done. Never mind the scammer could have even got the passwords for banking site, revenue Canada, etc.

Thanks to the stupid bitch now I am wondering if my identity will be stolen and even use in Social Insurance number for fraud.

Helping a woman is a lost cause. It’s no wonder women can’t build things let alone run a country.

Women want equality but they want men to fix s~~~ they f~~~ed up. WTF Women take your own f~~~’in responsibility and don’t cry victim when you’re been told ahead of time but you women think you know it all when you really know s~~~.

It could be one of two different scams, or a combination. Usually a popup webbrowser window or virus shows a message, saying something like

“OMG Your computer’s infected with a virus! Click here & the wizards at Microsoft will fix it!”

Once you click “Yes”, it allows some hacker/scammer to remotely connect to your computer, dig out your passwords, tax returns, other sensitive docs, etc.

Some scams will ask you for a credit card. In which case, you’re out $300 or whatever, and they didn’t actually “clean” anything. Or they don’t ask for a CC, they just remotely connect & pull as much info as possible for ID theft/bank fraud purposes. Or they charge you $300, and then rip off all your personal data.

Sucks. It’s the internet-equivalent of having someone come to your door, saying they’re a “tax inspector”, and can i please take photocopies of all of your personal documents?

Sorry for your ordeal, and yes women are… well a lost cause. Get a credit monitoring from any of the two credit agencies in Canada for few months , it cost $20 a month and you will be notified if someone gets a loan or a credit card or does anything with your identity, plus you will get about 50k for your legal fees, its worth it trust me.

Few years back my ex lost my T5 and I freaked out so I know how you feel.

Actually credit monitoring is pretty useless. There other things you can do. it’s a one time fee it can be done in USA and Canada.

In USA you can request a lock on your file to prevent anyone getting credit with your name.
In Canada it appears the creditors need to contact you with the number provided in order to give out loans. If they don’t then they are responsible for their stupidity. it’s $10 in USA and $5 in Canada which is much cheaper than $20/month.

It turns out the dude actually locked my aunt out of her windows account. They claimed her ipad had viruses. She knows she can contact me for any computer issues but she is too stupid to do that. I told her many years ago that she should take me when going to buy a new computer to have a custom built. Since I will have all the driver’s and know what hardware it uses it would be easy for me to fix her computer and if necessary I could clean up her computer or do a fresh install. She knows I would do it for free but she’s damn stupid and goes and buys one for Best Buy. A few months later her hard drive dies. She tells me this and yeah so what I am suppose to do. i do research to see which hard drive’s are less prone to failure but she doesn’t listen. But then she doesn’t give a f~~~ because she’s spending her dead husband’s money. She gets money from the USA since he provided so accounting services for American company.

Her husband when he was alive called me one day and saying the monitor wasn’t working. It could have been the video card issue and asked him to try another monitor and it worked and I asked him to try the old monitor again just incase the cable got loose. It was the monitor so they had it replaced. That saved them at least $50 bucks and a trip to the computer store and waiting time to get it fixed.

As you probably know an ipad can be reset to factory defaults within 5 minutes. How can a microsoft support tech fix an app issue is beyond me?

it would cost her nothing if she listen to me. It costs at least $85 to go a computer store. for a minor issue I can fix it fast for her unless it’s a motherboard then she’s better of taking it in.

When i was scanning for viruses last time she complained! it wasn’t my fault her computer was old as f~~~ and she didn’t want to a new one.

I’m not giving free tech support to anyone anymore because these people don’t listen at all.
