Yeah they’ve largely ruined it’s image by confusing it with a skirt, making people think it’s not manly/that it’s “gay”, using it to slut out at school. I used to despise the thought of the thing just on that last reason alone, but one day I realized it wasn’t the kilt’s fault, it was their fault.

Now the kilt is my favorite piece of clothing and I don’t consider myself fashionable at all.

Nothing is wrong with it, just had a negative image of it when I was young and dumb, because I associated it with sluts and slut behavior. But in retrospect that was an ignorant way of looking at it.

I know I am a kilt kid too, I know my grandfather was officially Scottish.

@Tower and Rennie: Lots of Scot in my bloodline on both sides. It’s why I never back down from tyranny.

When I read the story of the Battle of Bloody Marsh which booted the Spanish out of Georgia after 200 years of occupation. I do recall that the Highlanders were wearing their kilts. They were key to victory. My 5th great grandfather who fell in the battle was the clan leader. They were brought to Georgia specifically as a fighting force by Oglethorpe. They landed with the original group to defend the Southern flank of the new colony. You don’t f~~~ with the Highlanders. The 200 years Spain controlled mostly Coastal Georgia is largely a forgotten story.

The St. Andrew’s Cross flag is proudly displayed in my living room. It’s not uncommon to see men dressed in kilts for ceremonial occasions around here. One guy plays bagpipes on Sundays in a shopping center parking lot near me proudly wearing his kilt.

I always respected the kilt as my maternal grandmother’s father was Scottish, and she was very proud of it. Though this was not the battle part of the bloodline as they emigrated later. I knew what it stood for. Raiding and general ass kicking is what it symbolizes which is why they seek to render it into a badge of shame not honor. I went to a party where my friend who hosted it was proudly wearing his.
