Hello and thank you for any help I may find here. I recently bought a windows 10 based machine. The first thing I do with a new machine is get my email working. No surprise but windows 10 will not play with verizon.net servers any more. Called verizon support and after they hooked into my machine and did all the things twice that I had already done twice a supervisor tells me that “this isn’t the first time for this, here is a number to call microsoft”. Microsoft says I need to buy the office suite to make the security work or some other bs. They want cash to get win 10 to talk with my email servers. Anyone have any ideas for me? If I was a little handier I think I would pull windows right off this machine and go ubuntu or linnux. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Quite frankly I am a luddite and I do not like computers or the society that comes with them very much, and this may be the end for me. Sadly it will mean a goodbye here to you all as well because once I cut a tie that binds, I am done. This time it is the internet that is on my hit list. Thanks microsoft for years of unfinished products rushed to market and now the most invasive operating system I have ever had to take a look at.
Dont bother with windows 10 email. All they want you to do is setup Microsoft accounts so they can grab your wallet.
I use Thunderbird for email.
You are using windows 10. So turn off all the snooping.
Go down through all the settings and TURN OFF EVERYTHING. Otherwise Microsoft will have its hand up your computers network ass like a sock puppet. Don’t be a puppet.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning; it is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

Amen, brother!

Thank you very much for the reply and advice. I am really considering pulling windows right off it. I am fairly capable with computers and I think with the right helper I can do everything I need to start running a non microsoft OS. I will give thunderbird a go this morning.
My last Windows machine’s disk drive suffered a hard crash. I went for a machine with a RAM memory, and ended up with an Asus Chromebook. A nice plus was it was the cheapest laptop in the store.
Now the downside. My GPS insists on updates from Windows or Apple machines. That’s about it.
I would have put a RAM in my old Windows machine and upgraded it to linux or something, but the wildly overpriced battery was on the fritz. It was not worth the money to get it working again.
A mentor told me he always buys the cheapest computer he can find because it’s going to be obsolete in a few years, no matter how cutting edge it is today. He is right.

I agree. My new machine was not expensive but it has all the things that I wanted. Except the operating system. I went in blind to win10 and there ya go. I thought about chromebook too.
Please be aware !!
Comments regarding turning off the MS snooping on Win10 are somewhat irrelevant.MS brought out 3 basic variants of Win10.
Home, professional and enterprise.Originally only home suffered the following problem.
When you turned the snooping elements off whilst the icons changed behind the scenes nothing changed and all our searched, local and external were still saved and sent to MS for resale to 3rd parties.MS were challenged and admitted this.
A later update, which are now compulsory, changed the behaviour of professional to do the same.
Again MS were challenged and admitted this.
MS are behaving in a very applish way and now want your data and information as this has a higher profit margin than selling software.
I could go on, but suffice to say I have switched to Linux and one use VMs for windows software their sni Linux equivalent of, such as Articulate Storyline.
