    Dear Moneyologist,

My wife and I married in California in June 2014, but two days after the ceremony she had to go back to take care of her ailing father in her home country who had terminal cancer. Weeks and months went by and, even after her father passed away, she didn’t want to come back to me.

All of a sudden, she developed an aspiration to become a dentist in her home country. She studied hard, and unexpectedly passed her exams (according to her) and, despite my disagreement, enrolled in dental school in her country, which is a seven-year program.

I’ve been as patient as I possibly can. I’ve never cheated on her and tried to keep my spirits up as much as possible. Last August, in one of her three-week vacation visits, I filed for legal separation. I didn’t want to be too aggressive by filing for divorce. I wanted to allow her a chance to reconsider and, if she didn’t, protect my assets as well.

The legal separation never became official because she started showing signs of interest again to move here.

She finally moved here, almost two years after we got married but by then she seemed like a different person. As if we’ve grown apart. She tells me herself that she’s a different person prior to enrolling in dental school. I simply did not feel that this was an authentic marriage.

Now I’m afraid of divorcing because she might be entitled to half my assets. I’m a physician, even though she’s never lived here with me and has never helped me or been through with me “thick and thin.” Knowing her, I wouldn’t be surprised if she asked for spousal support. However, I can’t leave this subject untouched because the longer I wait, the more “entitled” the State might see her as, therefore the higher the risks I have in sharing my assets with her.

What are my risks of needing to share my assets? How can I avoid sharing any assets? Any words of wisdom will help.

    Tactics
Before the marriage it’s “true love”, after the marriage, it’s one BS reason after another to lengthen the amount of time married…

Since the guy is a doctor; this lady won the lottery.

This guy might have grounds for annulment, not just divorce. I understand that means she gets nothing.

You’d think she’d do that AFTER the honeymoon is over.

Good luck to him. I hope the marriage is canceled and she loses her green card.

I agree with sidecar- consult an attorney and get the thing annulled if at all possible.

These things often don’t work out well for the man. This mistake may end up costing him more than his medical education.
I had one friend whose wife ran off with the postman. During the trial she told the judge she was too emotionally upset by her adultery to work again. So of course she received spousal maintenance which was ordered to continue for five years after he died.
The cheating spouse even cleaned out his estate.
But he still has time to recover. Just don’t marry again.

I know someone who had this happened to them. 3 weeks after the honeymoon she left and moved back home. Had a big 40 thousand dollar Christian wedding. The c~~~ was a Christian woman who had her dad do the ceremony in a church in front of every one and then ditch the husband a month later. He divorced her and she got nothing. Funny thing was she was a bible thumper. Talk about being a hypocrite. Now she’s a big sinner and cant get married in a church again.

He should have proof with the immigration record that this women is not staying with him in the country for 2 years. Hence the lawyer can help in annulment.

There is no magic in MGTOW, just recognition of the truth and logical decision how to avoid dangers. The red pill is but the truth, it is no magical potion. Do not think in this modern world men have no longer have natural enemies, men are prey to women and government.

she told the judge she was too emotionally upset by her adultery to work again.

If I were a judge, that stunt would not work in your favor. What a damn sorry parasite!

Being that he’s in California, he’d better hire the #1 divorce attorney for men in the State cost be damned. It’s his only hope. Two days and then outright abandonment does not make a marriage. Of course, some shady friends in the wrong places might be of aid to convince her otherwise should she get some crazy ideas in her head.

In the uk her visa would be null and void, I wonder if the father was even sick ? It sounds like she was marrying just to get through a gate.
