The Bible and Quran both tell men to punish their wives by refusing to have sex with them. Victorian Era men, who of course were mostly Christian, also believed in the higher female sex desire.

But the difference is back then they’d stone adulterers to death, and women had no sexual access outside of marriage.

This is also why MGTOW monk mode is such a problem for women. If men stop offering sex, women will cave in immediately. This was also the plot for the Ancient Greek play, Lysistrata.
