Why are liberals so depressed?

It just occurred to me in another thread that most liberals I know are actually depressed people. I mean that medically: they struggle with depression and it never goes away. They take pills, go to counselling and nothing works. This applies to both men and women. They might even be physically fit and in good health too.

However, the more conservative people I know, especially people with religious convictions of some sort, tend to be happy and successful. They don’t suffer from depression. This isn’t a blanket statement, of course, but it holds true the more I think about it.

Liberals celebrate abortion and actively encourage it. They also believe all manner of lies, even that “all body types are beautiful”. They don’t actually believe that, so the cognitive dissonance probably doesn’t help. All these people with postmodernist views hate beauty: they say it is culturally relative, conditioned, subjective and basically non-existent, so they go about deconstructing and destroying it, trying to prove their point that garbage architecture and “art” ought to be appreciated whether you like it or not.

The mental gymnastics you have to go through to support contemporary progressive liberalism must lead to cognitive dissonance, which itself likely underlies a lot of the otherwise baffling levels of depression in modern society. Everything about it is also counter-instinctive, whereas “traditional values”, however you want to define that, tend to reflect distilled wisdom and human nature.

I’ve noticed liberals often seem constantly depressed and angry, too. I know that some of it is just an outward public act to garner sympathy for whatever cause they feel they or someone else is a victim of; but it goes beyond that, though, because they seem to mope around inwardly, as well.
I think Hitman was right in the difficulty of suspending disbelief throughout their daily life, deciding, consciously or unconsciously, that whatever they hear from their usual “reliable” source must be truth because their source has always been correct in their own eyes, and reinforced by their peer group, much like a cult.
I like to compare their mindset to the North Koreans, in that they are told that their President doesn’t need to use the bathroom the way ordinary citizens do. As ridiculous as it would sound to us, they just go along with the narrative because it’s unpopular, and actually dangerous to publicly disbelieve it. It doesn’t do them any good to say otherwise, so they eventually just pretend it’s the truth.

Much of this can also be said of conservatives, but not to the level of the liberals. Conservatives will usually reconsider their opinion when they are told otherwise and have had time to think about it. Logic and reasoning usually still has a hold of even the most ardent conservatives.

Karl Marx said the religion is the opiate of the masses. That has often been interpreted as an insult. My interpretation is that it shows that it is a necessity. Most religions provide some sort of comfort for their followers.

Liberalism and feminist are ideologies that are not based around contentment but are based on finding excused for constant change and so-called “progress”. There is no peace or serenity in liberalism. Just loud, irrational noise and being on the attack.

Biologically, I would say it is a near constant “fight or flight” state. No wonder so many liberals do marijuana. They need it, like sailors needed vitamin C to prevent scuvy.

Anyway communication, real open communication, is not wanted or even required in a relationship. I don’t think religion even has anything to do with it…I live in one of the more liberal states and very few people here are hardcore religious, even the conservative people. We have a few small churches like Jehovah’s and stuff that are a little hardcore but they tend to keep to themselves when they aren’t trying to recruit you and make up a tiny % of the population around here.

What I do think makes all the difference is ones expectations of how the world works. Liberals tend to be idealists with no grasp of reality while conservatives tend to be realists, which almost seems kind of backwards because conservatives are generally associated with an imaginary friend in the sky.

Its like Churchill said, “If you aren’t a liberal at 20 you have no heart, if you aren’t a conservative at 40 you have no brain.” (I can proudly say I was heartless at 20) You get liberal idiots thinking they can go through life not having to pay their own way, that everything will be handed to them, that they will have a high standard of living, and that there will be no consequences for any of their actions. Eventually life kicks them in the teeth when they realize that is not how the world works and they can’t handle it. In the past that would have been the point where they turned more conservative but these days it seems like they just get on (more) drugs instead.

If you are a liberal feminist woman who has hit that wall hard at 35 and the only thing you have to show for the last 15 years of your life is a worthless degree, a mountain of debt, a monstrous c~~~ count, and maybe some kids with a baby daddy(s) you are no longer with, and/or STDs to go along with it, and now you realize you will be a financial wreck for life and no guy will want you for more than a pump and dump going forward…how are you supposed to cope with that? Popping pills lol.

Dude this is the first thought I had when I was in college and some liberal idiot told me “I’m a progressive because I’m for making progress.” Making progress? You f~~~ers are breaking s~~~. We have no doubt made progress in some areas, especially technology and medicine, but in a lot of ways I envy not being part of my grandparents generation.
