“The total haul from marijuana sales over the last 12 months for the Centennial State now stands at $1.4 billion, bringing in almost $223 million in tax revenue”

“Each year, Colorado allocates $40 million of tax collected directly from the sale of marijuana to a program called Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST). The money goes to either building new schools or improving those in states of disrepair, according to The Denver Post.”

This assumes that spending is the problem in our education system.

Where I reside, per pupil spending in the Pubic (spelling intentional) school system is at $10,000 per student per year, and only 65% of that goes towards instruction.

I picked the largest urban district in my area. I reside in the rust belt. They are required to publish an annual report card. Like everything the District does, it’s terrible — web page won’t allow scrolling on my tablet and takes 15 seconds to load tables from its database. But what is most telling is the flunking grades in all the categories. They are required to report out against objective standards. So while the web site can show professional images of students captioned and headlined with ‘Schools are achieving’, they have to report these pesky failure rates on objective tests.

Much of it is cultural. I have an 18 year old female intern from this same district. She is intelligent and diligent. I attribute this to her parents being immigrants from a culture that values education and work.

Even a well funded district will fail when expected to educate youth from single Mommy households. They will succeed in indoctrinating them, though.

I don’t smoke weed but I know many professionals, business owners, sick people, etc who do. I would characterize none of them as ‘potheads’, and all of them as recreational drug users or medicinal drug users. Now, I did know some ‘potheads’ or drug ABusers back in college and high school.
