    I saw this on Facebook:

As per that post, only Otis was married, and he was drunk all the time. Mayberry is considered a utopia of sorts.

    Just a food for thought.

One of the first examples of post modern MGTOW. The exception is that it was on the scale of a small town.

    Too bad it was fiction.

Now that you mention it, nobody was married except the one man who found oblivion and jail an acceptable choice in the way he lived his life.

Edit: This reminds me of one of my all time favorites, The Beverly Hillbillies. No one on that show was married either, except Mr. Drysdale, but Drysdale paid a terrible price for his matrimony, namely Mrs. Drysdale. Jed and Granny had been legitimately married once, but neither had a living spouse in the series.

A priest I know, who also teaches sociology, said in the past, small communities would be able to make room for the unmarried man, and accepted him being part of the community. It is now, in this era, it appears to be a problem.

Since the Darlings lived outside of town, I’m just including this trivia as a side note as it probably doesn’t exactly fit this thread “Married in Mayberry”

Charlene Darling did eventually marry her fiancé Dudley (Dud) Wash; there were problems and they almost had a “Divorce Mountain Style”.
