It’s just another way to get rid of responsibility.

They could look at what they are doing and work hard on themselves to get what they want but isn’t it so much easier to just read “you will meet a mysterious stranger” and just accept that instead of going out of their way to meet people?

It is not: “what could I do that would change something in my life”

its always: “When will someone/something change something in my life”

And as others already said the ego boost of believing the universe revolves around them.

I once knew a woman who thought she could have told me what my star sign was based on my personality had she not known already. What she didn’t think about was that we had the same star sign and were nothing alike. I have no idea how she was able to rationalize that. The hamster must have been on steroids.
