It used to be that for relaxing I had my martial arts class, but lately it’s been constant sparring. And contrary to popular belief (at least in my case) punching and kicking people doesn’t relax me, it just stresses me.

I thought about camping, I’ve never actually done it by myself, always in a group. But once I started to read the rules in my province about “rustic camping” (the whole purpose is to be by myself), there is a bunch of rules about how to behave so you don’t get fined. So that made it lose it’s appeal.

Then I thought about shooting, but I don’t have a firearm license here yet.

So, the question remains: What do you do to find your zen?

Drink a cold beer while I sit outside reading a book. Also making sure there is no women around to wreck it.

Sparring used to put me in a dark mood for a few hours afterwards. I think it’s the mix of adrenaline and soreness from being punched & kicked that does it.

I’ve heard good things about the Headspace guided meditation app but i haven’t tried it yet.

I walk around my apartment, still not believing that this space is mine. I have a real chance at setting down roots here, that some c~~~ isn’t going to take this away from me. I am so tired of having everything taken away from me. The one possession that has stayed with me the longest is a bicycle that I bought in 2015.

oh no, wait. I kept my kid’s blankets. One is a swirly rainbow tie dye and the other is the Little Mermaid themed. I’ll give them back to my kids when they find me. My mom made these blankets for them, Christmas 2009.

There are several solo activities that work for me.
But first however, you must alter some of your weekend routines/habits.

First set aside one entire day per week or at a minimum every two weeks for just yourself. The wife is not allowed to schedule any “honey do’s” for you that entire day, and I mean nothing. No picking up breakfast for the family, no dropping the videos off at Red box or some other stupid lame ass crap that she can do for herself.

You need to lay down the law about this with the wife. Don’t ask permission, just tell her you have plans for that entire day. Whether she loves you or not…she is going to respect you for behaving in this manner. She doesn’t even know it, but it’s in her DNA to allow the hunter/gatherer of the tribe to leave igloo, wigwam, tee pee, or cave you live in and venture out alone.

Otherwise 40 years will fly by and things will be exactly as they are right now, except you as a man will have been cheated out of a lifetime of solo experiences that are intended to transform the mangina into a real man.

Get up early before dawn and before something/someone can f~~~ up your day. Leave the house immediately and leave the God damned cell phone at home. Never take it with you. Man has survived for tens of thousands of years without cell phones, so you are more than capable of staying alive for one entire day without it. Cell phones are nothing but “electronic leashes”. One text message or single phone call during the day will destroy any chance of you achieving your “inner peace” with yourself.

It almost doesn’t matter what you do once you leave the house. It’s getting that “undisturbed / uninterrupted” time alone with yourself that’s so important to sort things out in you head and feel good about yourself again.

For me. my favorite activity is to ride my Harley. I just love the freedom of the open road. Followed closely by what some people call hunting. Personally I think of it as “doing an armed reconnaissance in the woods” because I rarely shoot at anything anymore. Just like being out in the solitude of the fields and forests. However, I do feel naked without a rifle slung over my shoulder, but that’s just an old habit of mine. Don’t let not having a firearm stop you. With your martial arts training you can more than adequately take care of yourself.

All you need is a knife, compass, map, matches, water, and a vague idea of where you would like to explore. Then just go do it!!! Seriously man… just go do it!

Today I chopped and split wood much of the day because I heat with wood and solar.
Tonight I read awhile, practice a couple card tricks and new way I’m trying to forcing a card .. and then watch about an hour of video from disc. I’ll continue with Red Dwarf mid season where I left off last Friday. I cant’t ever tire of that show. Outdoor work tires me out.

Crank tunes in the garage and have a couple beers.

Take a long ride through the countryside on the motorcycle.

Grab the fishing pole and drown some worms….

Don't chase tail. Turn yours around, walk away, and live free!

These are in no specific order. I just felt like being organized and using a fancy list.

    1) Lay in my hammock.
    2) Spark a bowl of weeds.
    3) Listen to reggae music.
    4) Raise chickens, quail, rabbits ect.
    5) Take my dog for a walk.
    6) Eat peanut butter bread.
    7) Build cages.
    8) Gardening.
    9) Permaculture.
    10) Research on various topics. (Flat earth, 9/11, sociopathic women)
    11) Watch documentaries.
    12) Drink a beer and watch my chickens.

Chickens are better entertainment than most TV shows. I need to get myself some more rabbits (let the ex take the ones I used to have).

I don’t have much free time these days for relaxation, but I do try to spend at least a little while each day working on something I enjoy. Right now, I’m sorting and organizing all of the electronic components I’ve accumulated in various boxes in my almost 30 years of accumulating such things.

These are in no specific order. I just felt like being organized and using a fancy list.

    1) Lay in my hammock.
    2) Spark a bowl of weeds.
    3) Listen to reggae music.

Nice brother! That’s cool. You can raise them without much work. Check out some videos on youtube about permaculture and chickens. I added free range rabbits to the mix too for gardening and stuff. Lots of free meat from rabbits 😀

I want to thank everyone that replied, you guys gave me some good ideas.

And particularly you 53ClicksUp. I think I will copy what you posted, print it in a cool font, frame it and put it in my cave.

    Thank you.
