I don’t know who David Cronenberg is but if you make a crap gross film about people who are arses being arses then I don’t think much of you. That is what I reckon his porn will be like. I do see mileage in the “Who cares what feminists and liberals think” argument and on a personal level it works. On a wider level I think that it can’t work fully. In the end if we are going to make a point by walking away that gets heard and makes a difference (and while it is worth walking away for its own sake I would also prefer it to be more if possible) then I think it is important that red blooded men (which is what we are and whose interests we represent when we write) are seen as a positive group whose loss to society was tragic not a bunch of perverts who will not be missed.

Sidecar -you make good points and I quite fancy debating this with you because I think I have a point here too in as much as no man is an island but it seems like to do so would be to get out of proportion and to get away from my original point where it all started.

Blade put some gross stuff on a thread -as he does- and I said it was gross and the grossest thing about it was not the ugly whores but the guy who is being an arse. Being an arse to people for no good reason is just plain ugly.

I don’t think I need to take it further than that. It may be moral authoritarianism for all I know because I used the word “should” (and debating where moral authoritarianism starts and stops being valuable is a very interesting thing) but it is also a matter of taste and we are all allowed to have taste and voice it. I am not going to go round there and campaign to shut his little porn operation down but I can in addition to not buying his porn legitimately say I think it is unpleasant and disrespectful to himself more than to anyone to be acting that role.
