You can find what it means: shallow attempts to improve social status. By saying or doing things that doesnt cost them much. There are many examples, by being pro refugees, climate change, going green, etc

What I want to ask is if adoption of someone elses children is also virtue signalling ?

I read the news about Madonna who wants some more. the woman who was in front of all the feminist protest. Also Angelia Jolie adopted quite a lot of them, but we know she tried to crucify Brad. I never understood why they do it but the answer should be here.

If they are serious about it they should visit my country of origin, as I found out its the only thing foreigners know about. I didnt compare countries by the number of children abandoned but those kunts must be doing something that signal some real virtues. In the west the virtues must be higher as they protest for pro abortion rights.

I don’t think that is a “cut” on Romania, rather its a cut on the regime of Nicolae Ceaușescu—and in a way its an off-handed compliment on Romania giving the world Nadia.

But you’re right no many in the west are familiar with Romania. All I really know can be summoned up in the following:

1)Bucharest is the “Paris of the East”.
2)The Iron Guard sent all of seven guys to go fight in the Spanish civil war in 1938 and somehow two of them actually managed to get killed.
3)Irwin Rommel won his Iron Cross 1st Class at the battle of Mt. Cosna 1917
    4)Nadia was a hottie.
    5) And there is that guy that impaled mooslums–maybe an idea that is coming round again!

No. Adoption is not signaling for status. Adoption is a virtue of giving in of itself.

Adoption is a very important part of society. Adoption is voluntary by the adults in question. And there are abandoned children in need of adoption.

Sometimes the adoption works out. Sometimes the adoption does not. But, at least with adoption such children in need have a chance.

Celebrities who adopt do it in front of the world. .I think they do it for the virtue signaling.
Private adoption is different from that.
That is a real act of selflessness.

Hey. Every time I go to Bucharest it is winter! (I’m USA)

The beautiful women walking to work on the snow packed sidewalk. They are glam’d up to the max in high heel boots and hour glass form fitting Eskimo coat with the hood down. Icicles sparkle off of their hair, eye lashes and eye brows as they do the runway walk to or from the bus stop or work.

I asked why they left their faces uncovered in the frigid weather. The answer is that they don’t want to mess up their hair doo.

On a side note. So glad you guys took care of all the stray dogs.

To answer your question. It depends on intentions. Angelina Jolie probably adopts as a public signal of what a wonderful person she is. I adopted as a private signal to benefit the child. So, public publicity relations is a signal to answer your question.

Virtue Signalling is saying what you’d do, without acting. I respect anyone who adopts because it involves a great commitment.

Never heard the term till now, but “I’ll pray for you” comes to mind.

The term virtue signaling only came into existence about 2-3 years ago but the act has always existed in one form or another.

An early example would be from the New Testament Bible where the Pharisee publicly pours loads of coins into the temple offering bowl in such a way that it lets everyone know “how holy he is” The Pharisee does it not because he is truly virtuous but because he seeks praise from the appearance of virtuousness.
