Just watched a tech news show talking about a USB device resembling a standard flash drive that will totally and permanently render any computer/printer/router/charger/TV or any device you plug it into by sucking the electricity out of the port and then shooting it right back in.
This device was made just to prove a point: Nearly every device utilizing USB is vulnerable to a power surge. Apple appears to the only company who put measures in place to counter this problem.
The anonymous Hong Kong Company/Devs frustrated by the negligence of other companies have mass produced the USB killer and are selling them to your average consumer for about $49, they’ve already run out of stock and are planning to produce more. What do you guys think of the implications of this?Hillary Clinton would love this

Anonymous42What a f~~~ing horrible video! Kettle drums and hiding the first line in everything typed behind the title? What a f~~~ing armature! Boom boom boom boom boom,,, WTF!

Anonymous3Buy this product we have made that will protect you from this other product we have made whose sole purpose is to make you buy that second product!
They had to make this because in regular use it’s impossible for your USB device to do that.
Instead of buying a bulletproof vest and walking around with it because someone is shooting a gun at everyone they see in the chest, it would be a smarter thing to get rid of that psycho gunman shooting people in the chest.
Same idea with this. That product should probably be illegal because it serves no legitimate function, it can only cause destruction of someone else’s property. At the least, it should only be purchasable by people over 25 years of age and with a license. That’s the point of government, to ban stupid things from the hands of stupid people.
Unless you let stupid people into your home and let them put this dumb product into your computer, you have nothing to worry about. And if you catch someone still doing that? Beat the crap out of them and then sue them for a new computer and your lost data.
Yea, Ben Franklin was doing this with his kite
When you find yourself in the majority, it's time to reflect.
A hammer would be more effective and quicker. Beside if you want to destroy something you just use brute force. USB viruses are used to get something be it money or data. My point is the idea is ludicrous, so why do it other than to make a video.
If you rescue a damsel in distress, all you will get is a distressed damsel.

It’s a lot harder to trick people into spending $75 on a hammer I guess. Or heck a high powered magnet.
I can see a lot of hackers buying it…
It is nothing too special when you think about it. High voltage bursts have been known to destroy electronics. It is not a lot more than a miniaturized boost converter in a small package. This really won’t matter in the end since nearly no one would use these. It is also rather easy to protect against this by using diodes in line with the 5 volt rail.
