Unnecessary processes do to internet age

So I went in for orientation today for my gas station and job and after about 2 minutes found out I had to reschedule. The boss wanted me to have a passcode sent to my email that I was going to use to login with. Well the email I signed up with is not an email that I use on my cellphone. I only use it on my PC and I wasn’t even sure what the password was. It is an email I use from hostgator. Wasn’t even 100% sure how to access it and also the wifi on my cell is slow. I wasn’t prepared but this is bulls~~~ anyway. I just put in my social security number. Why the f~~~ do I need further identified? Did I mention that this passcode had a 15 minute time limit and work is 20 minutes away? So I couldn’t just drive home and get the passcode.

WTF is with all this s~~~? Not to mention applying for jobs online that require you to answer 100 questions.

When I had my interview the boss kept telling me I would have stuff sent to my phone. I was wondering what the hell she was talking about. Was it a text message? Why would I get a text message? She was talking about EMAIL. It’s EMAIL WOMAN. SENT TO MY EMAIL NOT MY “PHONE”! I want to correct her for this but I would probably be called a misogynist.

She must just assume that everyone has their emails on their phones. Maybe so but not me. Ugghh. Anyway, I got it straightened out and I hope next time everything gets done the way it is supposed to and there are no further surprises.

Any other gripes from you guys about how the internet has changed working, applying, etc?

If your resume doesn’t have key words it gets discarded. Then companies wonder why they just can’t seem to hire the right people. Not to mention the incompetent f~~~s in HR.

When the WWW first came into use, I created a yahoo.com account that has always been my throw away account since.

Anything I wanted to receive, but not didn’t care if it was spam went to this email.
Everything that needed to be verified but was temporary, went to this email.
Anyone wanted to get in touch and insisted on using email went to this email.

Multiple emails are essential in these days and time. Different accounts on different servers.

That really bothers me as well. Everyone is starting to centralize their entire life into their pocket. When I started to minimize my life, it started to feel weird that I could be the only one in the room, gym, subway, and not have their face glued to their phone or tablet.

Sometimes the website interface is horrible. With the extensions and a modified user.js I use applying for jobs is a nightmare.

I’d rather call, show up in person, dump my resume, take a business card. Now I don’t have to deal with connection issues or IT errors.

Brother I feel your pain!!

I’m currently job hunting and it’s a goddamned nightmare. I would have assumed you were exaggerating when you said 100 question job applications until I had to burn through half a dozen myself.

And these aren’t even high salary jobs, these are run of the mill, hourly rate blue collar types. Checking my credit score, background check, pee in a cup, answer 100 questions… Jesus f~~~ing Christ man, I’m not trying to re-join the military, I’m just trying to get a night job!

My biggest problem at the moment is being “overqualified”. F~~~ My Life.

My resume screams “Middle Management”. THat’s why I f~~~ing got out, I was SICK of middle management. I want to work with my hands and be left alone when not on the clock. No more midnight phonecalls where I’ve got to fix all the problems. No more “guidance counselor” bulls~~~, people constantly complaining from higher AND lower. No F~~~ing Way. Never Again.

Can I be a leader? Sure as f~~~. Do I want to be? Never Again.

I can’t dumb down my resume anymore, it would practically be blank if I didn’t have leadership/management positions on them.

I swear the last three interviews I had would have gone better if I just showed up high and without a resume altogether.

I worked for a company that used gmail for its email. This was a small company that did about 6-10 million a year in revenue. They were a tech company, paid for several custom software applications etc… they refused to pay for email even to googles business services. One day the email goes out and it becomes my job to figure out why. I went online to find out some people in some areas were having email outages.

One of the female managers is raging at me to call tech support etc… I explain “we use google and its the free s~~~, there is no tech support for it!” It is all explained on the google website!

She demanded to know why the email was down and that she had critical emails she needed etc…. etc… I told her there is nothing I can do. She is screeching on and on… I finally just look at her and say “Look! I am the marketing director! I make sure you have customers and a good presence in the community! Why is technical issues my issue? She said “because you’re one of those gamer guys, you know about computers!”

I had mentioned at one point to another worker there who is a big video game nut that I used to play WOW. We talked for like 5 min about it and she assumed I was some computer genius. I asked why she didn’t go to the “Gamer” (I even used air quotes) in her department. She responded to me that he wasn’t very responsible and she didn’t like dealing with him because he was nerdy.

I informed her that I was filing a formal complaint, she was harassing me, yelling at me, and profiling me, creating a hostile work environment. She tried denying it but the CFO had put in security cameras in the marketing department that recorded everything including audio. We had a lot of marketing stuff for conventions etc… and some of it had been stolen in the past by a disgruntled employee. Anywho boy was she shocked when I pulled the video up for HR to see.

She then became very involved in what I was doing. I had a company cell phone, wifi hotspot, computer, laptop, etc… etc… etc… oh and a spending account, and even access to company cars. She started this campaign to have all that taken away because as a marketing director I was being paid plenty and should be able to afford all that on my own.

Eventually, she left the company but not after trying to take them to court over unfair pay policy. She was a section manager in the phone department… responsible for a small call center… well for a portion of a small call center….. she tried to claim pay discrimination because I got paid a lot more than her. 1. not even the same department. 2. not even the same job. 3. wtf!
