The first man gets up at 4 am. Not out of necessity. He has learned it’s his only chance for an hour of peace. Soon his wife and kids will emerge. He takes a cup of coffee to the basement and sits quietly.
This is his space, all he has left. The remainder of the house is in the image of his wife. He’s literally been forced underground. Sipping his coffee he hears thumping above…she’s up early. Anger flashes through him as the stomping approaches the basement door.
She asks him what he’s doing. Before he can answer she cuts him off. “Don’t forget after work to take the dog to the vet for shots, Then you’ll need to pick Tim up from band practice. I have a hair appointment this evening, my stylist is back from maternity leave….pick up something for dinner on your way back”
After she slams the door he turns to his computer. Above it is picture. A 22 year old sitting on a motorcycle. The picture is faded but you can clearly make out the giant smile on his face. The Rocky Mountains under a bright blue sky in the background. His right hand has a Marlboro in it.
As he stares at the coffee grounds in the bottom of his cup and wonders aloud. “How did this happen…”
The second man wakes up before his alarm. Stretches out and scratches himself. While making coffee he ponders how to spend his day. No commitments, plans or relationships. The sun is just creeping up and a light fog is lingering. Other than the sound of the river all is calm.
Three quail peck away under the bird feeder. Looking around he spots over a dozen more behind them. Their natural camouflage always impresses.
Inside he hears the coffee pot grumbling and the aroma from the fresh grounds fill the house.
Stepping back in he turns on his computer. His history shows searches for vacations in Costa Rica and Brazil. A half full bottle of Jameson stands by… “oh damn” he mutters, “hope I didn’t book nothing last night”
He notices a text from last night on his phone. Chili cook off and poker night has been planned. He replies “hell yes”. Fresh peppers, onions and tomatoes from the farmers market…his day is now planned.
Walking to his spice rack he stops and looks at a picture on his wall. He took it years ago on a motorcycle trip with his brother a week before the dude got married. His brother sitting on his bike, a giant grin on his face and the Rocky Mountains in the background under a bright blue sky…
Dedicated to my Brother…
That is f~~~ing outstanding bro. Cheers. *x100
Peace is > piece.
That’s Poetry
+1
If only we knew the likely consequences of our romantic actions. Would we still committ? All we can hope for is that the young guys wake up a hell of lot quicker than us old guys did.
By, the way, if that’s an original short scene from you, Please write a book 🙂
It's Time to get Wise
Man! That pretty much describes my brother! He doesn’t have a minute to himself, three kids, he does everything, Ms.Doubtfire without the divorce, while she comes home at 2300 “from a long day at work…”
I saw her laughing and giggling with her friends at 2100 while my brother was still doing homework with his 14y/o. Would he say something? Hell no, she gots him by the b~~~~ and they both know it.I’ll think I’ll e-mail him your story.
Don't let them Blame, Shame or Tame you!
Give 'em NOTHING, not even an answer!
#GenderSegragationNow!Pure. Eloquence. Nicely done, Trapper.
When women lead, destruction is the destination. -- Me.
Very eloquent.
I could picture both scenarios in my head, and identify with both.
Thank you Trapper. There was a time in my life when I gave a fuck. Now you have to pay ME for it
Wonderfully written Trapper. A delight to read amidst all of my normal day news and opinion pieces. You have made me smile today and, judging by the comments, many of your fellow MGTOWs as well. Thanks man.
well written, I liked it a lot.
Brilliant!
