    I can spread some light on this for sure. So basically, trucking has been really rough to owner operators and small businesses in the past 5-10 years. The economies of scale in purchasing fuel, buying trucks, paying for maintenance and so on have been seriously benefiting large companies and forcing the rates in freight down. Since e-logs started becoming a thing, large companies have been using them which pretty strictly limits drivers to 11 hours of driving time. This is the one advantage that owners and small companies had because, since they’re using rewritable paper logs, they can simply lie and drive as much as they want to make up for the lost charge rates.

    A few months ago e-logs were made mandatory for every trucker, meaning they lost their significant advantage. As a result of the reduced freight shipping capacity of the industry, the cost of freight has been rising consistently, but owner operators, lease operators, and small companies are finally feeling the squeeze of being unable to compete with large companies to the point that they’re having to consider bailing out or becoming company employed.

    I work for a large company precisely because i realize the benefits to doing so. Most people that drive for themself just have a bug about not working for a company, even if they would make more money working for a company.

    Working for a large company is precisely where they want you, your benefits and better pay will only last until the low end of the competition are bought out or pushed out of the market completely, then you will be making more or less what Amazon employees made, you have to keep in mind that higher pay and benefits are only incentive to get you where they want you to be while they consolidate a single market for themselves, a short therm loss for a long therm benefit.

    Most people can’t see the obvious even if you presented it to them in a nice way, if i was a trucker and i was working for a big company like yourself, i would still respect their right to protest and support them by joining in, numbers make the difference not when you think nothing will affect you, trust me it always comes around.

    I’m just glad that there is still a fight for indepence out there. And not just swallowing crap whole. I bet you most of the people making the regulations only served to sell more products. It was never really about safety. Just a way to f~~~ over the little guy.
