Seriously, what happened to country music? I tried to listen to it earlier this week when I had to drive for several hours over a couple days. Almost very song was a blue pill gynocentric “Oh baby, you’re so hot, I want you” or “I’m so sad because you left me and I want you back”-type of trash, sung by some pretty boy flavor of the month. Here are just a few of the top twenty (from http://www.billboard.com/charts/country-songs):
A Guy with a girl – Blake Shelton
(It’s) Different for Girls – Dirks Bentley – – Listen to this one, if you really want your head to explode!!!
Today – Brad Paisley
Better Man – Little Big Town
Setting the World on Fire – Kenny Chesney
Blue Ain’t Your Color – Keith UrbanI used to think that Shania Twain did country music a service when she shook it up and got it into the mainstream. Now I’m not so sure that mainstreaming was a good thing. When I got home, I listened to some Toby Keith, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, just to get that current country music mind-rotting tripe out of my brain. What the heck happened???

HAG CASH ARE THE ONES I HOLD ONTO TO LISTEN FOR THE STORY OF THE SONG. SOMEHOW THE MUSIC TODAY IS JUST A BUNCH OF FEMENITSIC MUMBO-JUMBO .
LILITH IS THE HEAD SUCCUBUS AND SHE LIVES ON THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON
It’s “Pop” Country, not Country. Country is Merle Haggard, Tom T. Hall, Weylon Jennings, Hank Williams, George Jones, ETC. MTV took over and now it sucks. Next they’ll have Kanye doing Rap Country. (shudder)
Yep, they have joined the “girls are better than boys” mob. I do listen to stations that play oldies, the songs I grew up with. The new stuff is as formulaic as sausages coming out of a factory.
There are exceptions that make the rule. I expect today’s exceptions will be all that are played on tomorrow’s oldies stations.

Toby Keith
You lost me here even as a rock fan i know this s~~~ is f~~~ing trash the rest is not bad but Toby Keith is the bottom of the s~~~ barrel.
Just an east coast asshole who likes to curse, If you get offended by words like fuck, cunt, shit, piss, bitch or any racial slurs then you just scroll down.
I generally spell Country without the “o” if I’m referring to music.
When women lead, destruction is the destination. -- Me.

Old school
I grew up in Wyoming, listening to country music…But when I say country, I mean Johnny Cash, George Jones, George Strait, Hank, Hank Jr, Charlie Daniels….As I got older, the music has changed, to pop, as a poster said above, and here in these past few years it has even integrated “rap” which I do not even consider music…It is some f~~~ing idiot bitching and yelling about hoes, money, and drugs….I have listened to the original Eminem track, and have to say, lyrically he is a genius, but it is still is not music in my humble and lowly opinion…I think country stars management has done this…Honest…They seen an ave for dollars, and f~~~ing destroyed the genre forever…
Men are at a time when panning for gold in a urinal has a higher probability of success than finding a faithful and loving woman, it is time to go your own way.....
Country music, at least since the early 1990s, has been targeted toward women 25-54.
Formula #1: Well-built male singer in tight jeans, sleeveless shirt and cowboy hat. Content doesn’t matter because he’s just eye candy for the girls.
Formula #2: Female singer who sings about needing attention or exacting revenge on her boyfriend/husband. I would call that preaching to the choir, in terms of demographics.
My Dad was always a big fan of the old school country music, never personally liked most of it. But I can always respect those with talent and a real message.
Roy Clark, Marty Robbins both come to mind out of all the music my Dad loved. All the C~~~ry Pop of today is an insult to his memory.
Speak softly, strike accurately and hit with the force of a thermonuclear bomb

I worked alone only Sunday morning in my late teens at a tiny AM radio country station .. actually located in a cow pasture. The small brick building had about six rooms (not counting the bathroom) and the guyed AM antenna was located just outside the building. During the daylight hours we were 1000 watts AM and in the evening dialed back to 500. The AM station probably had a reliable range of about 20 miles on a good day. The FM station was slightly less. Good enough for local news & sporting events news.
We also had an automated 5000 watt FM station but it only needed to be monitored as it took care of itself all morning .. large reel to reel players with automated preloaded ads. on tape carts.
Sunday mornings on AM it was also mainly light country music either on reel to reel tape or sometimes 45 and LP records on the three Gates turntables in the tiny studio. The sound deadening for the studio, along with regular suspended acoustical tile, was actually gray egg trays mounted here and there. It worked quite well.
I miss those old days .. we switched to bubble gum rock certain times of the week and also had a mail-in (yes, mail in) request show for the local teeny boppers.
I guess I’m kinda dating myself by posting this; but it really was fun .. to get the news off the printer and read it on the air. They really didn’t care exactly how I arranged it as long as the station kept running.
Those days are long gone .. so is the fun. We had no satellite hookups .. just a teletype news printer off the phone line.
I still have quite a few of the old 45 rpm demo country records and sometimes I’ll stack a few on the record changer in my shop and listen .. pretending I’m back in the old cow pasture from 6AM to Noon on Sunday mornings. The faint electrical odor of that place as the larger tubes (they called ‘finals’) of the transmitter glowed hot and gave off a distinct aroma. I’d actually wanna go back for just awhile to those old days and see it again.Wow 12:02 that is a great story sir….I would bet I could listen to you tell stories all day sir…

I think country music is the ultimate mangina genre. It talks about men being proud to serve some woman, change everything about themselves to make some woman happy. To work a long day so your wife can sit on her ass. It’s f~~~ing pathetic and they say that s~~~ proudly.
Feminism is a movement where opinions are presented as facts and emotions are presented as evidence.
Oh it’s BAD boys…I was writing songs, recording and producing records until the end of 2014 in Nashville. Had retired from playing mostly in Europe at that point and after a short stint in LA, we moved to Nashville. I was there almost 4 years but I’d been playing there, writing there etc since about 02.
In 2010 you had Zach Browns first album had hit Keith Urban and some other stuff that was really starting to sound like the music I wrote finally and I could see having some success writing for and producing artists. I had connections there doing just that so we made plans and moved there. 3 weeks in I get my first song published and I think it’s smooth sailing! WrONG!!
By about the end of the first year there I was writing everyday, meeting and working with big writers and producers, getting smoking blown up my ass and making NO $$$!!! They kept signing all these young kids you hear on radio who can’t sing, can’t write and certainly can’t play when the town is FULL to the rim of talent that cans do all!!! My buddy Terry Lee started playing with this new kid out of Fresno..REAL green. Very mediocre…Barely can sing, write…Meanwhike Terry Lee played for Mark Chesnut, has a degree in guitar SMOKES world class at any style, sings his face off, writes his ass off but he can’t get a deal…record company puts him with the kid. They sign the f~~~ing kid!!!! The kid was John Pardi..I saw it time and time again and I began to see the hip hop generation influence in the music being pushed on the row to appeal to the younger demographic. That’s all it is. Record company BS steering the ship because it’s the music BUSINESS…Needless to say I got very disillusioned and it went down hill from there..got out of there 2 years ago yesterday and into Corporate/private events live music in the best place for that. Making money building the business up!
Country music of old quality does exist both in sing and artist but you’ll never hear it on Radio. It’s ALL over Nashville however!! Just not downtown or Broadway. That’s tourist BS.

Yes…you are right. The fan base is women so you are marketing to them for the most part. They buy the most music, schwag, concert tickets etc. Country music along with Pop music is almost exclusively marketed to and FOR women.
