I can count on one hand how many times he used a belt on my ass. I watched him cry when he used it to the point that I was sorry I made him use it. It did have a lasting effect, it caused me to have an overwhelming respect for others. It was “Old school” parenting that would be seen as abuse today but it made better adults than what we have now. He usually did teach with humor and the belt was a last resort. “Spare the rod, spoil the child!”

I have three daughters, all in their thirties. My ex and I divorced when they were six, eight and ten. I had them every other weekend and was never even late in a single child support payment. I went without a lot of things to buy the extras they asked me for. I knew their mother was putting them up to asking so I would be put in the position of saying no, or being out what little money I had. Ate a lot of bowls of fried rice for dinner and bologna sandwiches for lunch. Worked a 2nd job for two years to pay of the debts my crappy lawyer let get me stuck with in the divorce.

The ex trashed me at every opportunity and my relationship with my daughters only improved when they were in their early twenties. It was tough on the custody weekends but I tried to do fun things with them and have a good time. Lots of times they acted like they didn’t want to be there, but I wouldn’t give up on seeing them.

Each one came to me separately as young adults and told me they now realized that all the things their mother said about me were not true. They all said that I was a good, kind and loving man and they were sorry for the way they had treated me over those years. I never said a bad thing about their mother although her infidelity was the reason for the divorce. You can’t go wrong doing the right thing.

Most over here try to be good or at least try to be good at being bad. Two Time Winner and I are K-Town boys but it is the mountain folk that you don’t want to mess with. Them are the REAL Tennesseans! East Tennesseans are more pro-gun than Texans but we have the lowest crime rate of the three states of Tennessee, far safer than Memphis.

I plan on being on Zoom tonight and tomorrow if I can find anyone on there to talk to.
