We are sorry that your ancestors did not make the grade as Brits and had to be exported (often forcibly in the case of the Aussies) and we are sorry that this has left you with big chips on your shoulders. US, Killed 37.000 to 82,000 dead. British deaths in 78,000 dead.

By comparison we lost:

620,000 in the Civil War and 644,000 in all other conflicts. It was only as recently as the Vietnam War that the amount of American deaths in foreign wars eclipsed the number who died in the Civil War
