So ever since going my own way I have been on a debt eliminating rage. I still have quite a bit left over from my divorce so I am wanting to make extra money quickly.

I work as an EMS helicopter pilot for my primary job and I typically will work week on week off. I am thinking of Uber driving during the week off. I live in Phoenix so I don’t think there is any shortage of customers. Thoughts?

What about getting the s~~~ty work of flying and inspecting power lines? Eventually flying as a platform for transmission line workers. Why crawl around on the ground when you have a license to fly? You’ll never see an Uber driver inspecting power lines, and I’m sure the pay grade is night and day.

It’s not as simple as it sounds. You have to be trained, qualified and current in another type of aircraft. Also finding a gig like that in the vicinity of where you live is another challenge. If not you are driving long distances or even flying to the other job. That takes two days out of the equation just for travel. Also as EMS pilots we are mandated rest time to include our off time so flying other jobs is against policy unless you are national guard or reserves and fly part time for the military.

More research shows Uber is pretty much a scam. I’ll think of something else.

What about a CDL and driving trucks, will that interfere with mandated “rest time”? You can make a small fortune with a dump truck and skid steer for hire, you can do an amazing amount of work quickly with all the right attachments, you can trench, sweep parking lots, grapple wood, clear lots, a million and one things and you set up the contracts and eventually hire others to fill the orders.

Could you be a flight instructor?

I think this is actually the direction I will go. Learn something new and make a few bucks as well.

Dude you have a cool f~~~ing job.

Hadn’t thought about that, but it’s a good point. Are there other guys that are EMS pilots that moonlight doing something with their licenses? I don’t know much about the industry, but instruction or sightseeing or private shuttle services for VIPs and all that s~~~? No?
