The Confederate states didn’t try to impose anything on the remaining United States, they just wanted to be left alone and determine their own future. Had they been successful the northern states would still be singing the Star Spangled Banner.

Slavery was a terrible horror and I make no excuse for it. It was (and still is as it exists in Africa) a sin against man and God. Many people believe is was becoming uneconomical during those years and would have soon died out on it’s own.

The southern states used their legal right to sever their association with the northern states. Lincoln used an illegal war to bring them into subjugation.

The American Civil War was not because of the slavery issue – which was a cover to drum up support for a righteous war.

No – the real reason was the fight between paper-backed currency (North) and gold-backed currency (South). The South wanted to be independent to carry out their trading and finances in gold. This would have killed the ability of the North to control the currency system.
