I just saw the moon and DAMN it’s very bright. To me it doesn’t appear to be noticeably bigger, but it does appear much brighter. This is the first major super full moon to be seen since 1948 and I wanted to see it.

At the time I type this message, you can see it over Chicago.

Try and catch it tomorrow at moonrise in your area. It’s biggest when it’s closest to the horizon. Tonight made for some great pictures, but I think it’s tomorrow officially.

Some times(I dont know if this is one of them) its closer to the Earth. Thats what makes it brighter.

Looked it up. This is the closest to Earth its been since 1948.

The Moon will be at perigee (it’s closest approach to Earth at 221,525 mi) within two hours of reaching full tonight at 5:52 AM Pacific time. This is why it’s bigger today than usual.

For the record, the Moon’s mean distance from the Earth is 238,855 mi so in just a few hours it will be 17,329 mi closer than mean.

Got some time on my telescope and was observing. Had to put in a filter to keep the light down. Walked outside, no clouds, moon overhead and it was like a cool brilliant light everywhere.

I’ve been watching it all night long and will be out there tomorrow night too.

I’ve had a thing for watching the sky since before kindergarten.
