The worst thing about Francis is that he looks healthy and has many years in him. I expect the next Pope to be more right wing. I read an article recently, he’s deeply disliked among the traditional leaning cardinals and bishops – worldwide.

Ah well, I can still enjoy my Catholic liturgy and my great local parish.

Remember I posted that thread about afterlife? At last night’s mass, in the homily, our priest spoke about his mother’s death. After a long illness she seemingly passed away one day but revived again. She was angry because she said she saw a crowd of people before her in bright light, including her deceased family, smiling and welcoming her, the pain of sickness had gone. Then she was back in her sick bed in pain. She hadn’t seen the face of God, but had a glimpse of the Kingdom of Heaven. She lasted another two weeks.

That blew me away hearing it, just as I was thinking and researching NDE this past week, I get confirmation of it in chapel. These things happen when you have faith. Can’t even explain it in words properly. You get a feeling. This year has been the worst of my life, but I have had so many signs from God it has confirmed for me this saying – the deeper the grief, the closer is God.

This is why I am Catholic without apology, regardless of who’s Bishop of Rome, I have an inspirational priest and a great parish. I read my bible, but every mass makes me think and gives me ideas about scripture I never thought of.

Of course not all priests are as good as some.

Basically my point as well, yet for some reason I get backlash for saying it… Those in control of Religious orders keep selling it’s believers down the river, both In Israel (as the State is in control, not the Rabbi) and in Vatican City.

I try and live in the world by logic. And in temporal day to day things it makes perfect sense. Without logic we are just meat fuelled by instinct and ignorance.

But my faith is different, my spiritual life. I have even tried to deny it, when I hit rock bottom earlier this year, I’d let my faith slide to a point that I thought I was just imagining God was dropping me signs to come back again. When I destroyed my life that weekend I thought maybe in my desperation I was just using Him because my whole world just stopped and I had nowhere left to go. I refused to think that coming back to Him could be so simple, I had wronged him too much with my mortal sin. I still had believed in Him, but wasn’t in communion with Him.

I was in such a bad way I had attempted to end it all the night before. Then I had to report to a cop shop next day. I couldn’t have felt more hopeless than I did dragging myself in there, worthless. I was on autopilot and preparing to try to kill myself again that night in my hotel room. I was in a strange town as I had lost my home the day before. A civilian woman receptionist saw the mental state I was in and said there was a church up the road where she went to think things through when life got her down. She also gave me mental health and suicide literature, and I got an appointment with the local psych team, and a GP.

Later that day I walked up the road the church was on in a daze, and in the heart of Protestant England this little church just happened to be Catholic. That was no accident, and when I entered and sat down everything came right out of me, like a burst dam, and I knew I had been guided here. In my turmoil I had found peace, for an hour at least, and felt love and warmth in there. I was back where I belonged. I wept like a child and prayed, and knew killing myself was not what He wanted me to do, don’t ask me why, the feeling just arose from somewhere deep inside me. I knew I could go on.

At certain points in my life logic and reason can’t explain why or how things have gone one way or another.

I am certain God exists, and still my logical being questions this faith; then a sign comes, subtle enough for me to stop and think, and realise I can’t reason these things away. My faith fills in the gap between.

Its hard to describe to someone else when your have your moments of clarification, they just come. Hope I’m not being to deep, just getting stuff off my chest, felt like a good thread to explain why there are Churches, faith, religion. It might be different to another believer, even another Catholic. Anyway, cheers, and I’m not a fan of Pope Francis 😉
