Won’t be getting one, more than satisfied with my D800 and truth be told my skills as a photographer will probably never match the D800. That being said I can still admire and drool over the new camera.

How does a dslr compare to a LYTRO camera wally…
Sorry, camera noob here and just a tech freak who uses mostly automatic on camera settings…
And does a high end dslr camera even matter if the photos themselves can be edited by photoshopped to be enhanced?
Just wanted to ask those from those who are camera savvy…I stand with feet apart and let my balls hang free...Manginas dont have balls...See how they stand and sit at the whim of their masters...
I haven’t done much research into Lytro but from what I read several years ago the focus point can be adjusted after taking the shot, this cannot be done with an SLR.
I may be wrong about that but this is my take.If you are just going to snap shots or let the camera make the adjustments or for the web sure no need to go SLR just get a point and shoot.
I like to have creative control and adjust the F-stop and shutter speed most of the time myself, also if I want to get even more creative such as use a rear sync setup SLR is needed.
Also having an SLR allows more room for adjustments in Lightroom because I have found that most point and shoots don’t allow a RAW format but that may have changed. But this may be changing.
But you have a point if you took a shot with a decent point and shoot and then same camera angle and equivalent lens with an SLR and did a medium sized print or posted to web, most people myself included would have a hard time telling the difference.
Also for what I like to do- underwater photography and some landscape using Tripod, point and shoots have too much shutter lag compared to SLR.

Oh…Now I see…thanks for the info…
Is there a plan by the camera industry to have an app for adjusting all the knobs and buttons on a camera…I mean, with all the dials and switches and focus and shutters on an SLR camera could it not be automated? And what is up with the raw file?It was huge when I encountered it…100plus mb for a single picture…I remember, it was my wedding photo…raw files were used…Would raw files be beneficial for close ups, selfie stuff or for wide panoramic shots?
I just want to know the point where my camera phone is not enough anymore to take the pictures I want and that an SLR camera would be beneficial…I think that would summarize my question…Thanks for the answer wally…I stand with feet apart and let my balls hang free...Manginas dont have balls...See how they stand and sit at the whim of their masters...
2 specific differences in phone and SLR are the lens and sensor
Say you have a phone camera with 30 megapixels and a full frame SLR with 30 megapixels, those phone pixels are packed onto a tiny sensor probably the tip of your pinky finger (being generous), they won’t gather light as efficiently because they are crammed and not the size of the pixels on the full frame SLR. Megapixels are a marketing gimmick anyway.
The most important part is the lens I have put a good lens on my camera and then put a known bad lens on my camera and could tell an immediate difference.
The raw file gives you all the data from the image and allows to most flexible processing and sizing.
If you want to blow up a picture poster sized you will probably need an SLR but for prints like an 11×14 your phone will probably be ok
If you plan on doing close ups like macro I recommend an SLR and 100 mm lens and shoot in Raw to get as much detail as possible. Selfies and panoramas phone will do.
Hope that helps

Thanks wally…It was very insightful…Hope I can get a decent SLR camera in the future…Nothing serious, just for taking photos that needs to be awesome…Thanks again for the insight brother…

RAW files are uncompressed, and while they can be quite large, they offer the most picture quality and detail because it’s capturing the image without compression. Like Wally said, the whole megapixel s~~~ is just a gimmick. It comes down to the processor, and the image sensor. Lenses also play a big part as well. Phones are not equipped with top of the line sensors to capture light in dark places like cameras are. In fact, they tend to use lower end quality material in phones because it helps make them affordable. If you could put camera quality sensors and lenses in phones, the cost would increase dramatically.

The Canon EOS and the Nikon D series cameras are by far my favorite. Even the older models are still excellent cameras.

They are both good series, a good friend of mine shoots Canon, we love giving each other heck but they are fine cameras.
