Anyone notice how the new systems are just not worth the price? especially with a ps4.5 coming out, a new xbox one that came out, the nintendo nx, paying 50 bucks a year for internet. Im sticking to my old consoles like my ps3 till i either decide to get a gaming pc or just stick to the old consoles since there are plenty of games that i have still to play and the servers are still up for mutiplayer.

I have games like Batman arkham city, Mass effect 3, and destiny on the wall which i have not played yet. Plus the gta franchise on the pc (i prefer beating my other games before getting into new ones).

I just tend to wait. I’m not in the rat race. So I just play the games when I get around to them/hardware catches up.

A few years ago I was playing PS1 games. I had a blast with GT2 on the emulator. Actually beat the world championship on it.

Yea. And not just the systems. With Downloadable Content. The game makes will sell you have the game at retail, and you have to pay for the other half on the internet.

I suggest PC gaming. Keep in mind such games like MMOs have to have lower system specs to work so their long time customers can play the games as well.

I’ve had consoles from every maker and endless PCs, right now I have a gaming PC and a PS4.

You just have to look at what works for YOU, avoid the gaming forums on this matter because they’re extremely biased.
People often say “PC games are much cheaper” but that only works with old digital games, and remember on Steam according to the ToS you don’t buy them, you rent them. When a new game comes out on retail it costs almost the same for a Console as it does on PC, and like wise when it gets old you can get it much cheaper, and if it’s a physical copy no one will take it away from you.

As for online, I for one only play MMOs online, all the rest thanks but no thanks, specially on PC, cheat mods on online PC games are a killer, to the point of “get an aim bot or go home” you can literally hear some guilds say that.

So get what you feel it’s best for you.

I’ve had a ps4 for a couple years,i agree,if you wait you aren’t missing much. The only game i really enjoyed was the witcher, other than that its alot of rehashing of ps2 and ps3 games. When they released heavy rain again on ps4 i was like are you f~~~ing serious. Not to mention releasing hitman in episodes. Been waiting for the next uncharted forever also,i dont know what these companies are thinking.

Yea, I usually harkon back to retro games from my PlayStation and PlayStation 2. I see a massive decrease in local co-op games, so I can’t play with my brother much.

But, in a way, I feel glad to have a PC and a PS4 because it looks like the Xbox One is going to be useless, now that Microsoft is starting to put its exclusives on PC.

I’m not at big gamer but what do the new systems offer?

For the average non professional computer user, I think they have plateaued out. 5 nanotechnology seconds faster?

    Makes no difference to me.

What can the new systems do that old statement can’t?

If steam goes down they will most likely release a patch giving you ownership of the titles you bought.

Even if they didn’t, I’d just consider myself entitled to download it elsewhere. Since I paid for it and it’s mine.

I don’t play online much either. When I do it’s usually only with people I know. Aside from the constant cheating.People’s behavior in online games has gotten considerably worse in the past 10 years. So much whining, complaining, blaming, negativity and just plain rudeness.

I have a Ps3 with plenty of games such as Tekken 6, GTA5, Devil May Cry, Fight Night Round 4, God Of War series, etc.

I love playing consoles offline more. If I ever get another system to game on, I’m going to be buying older systems off of Ebay or Craigslist. Most of the newer games aren’t worth it because you have to wait hours or even days sometimes just to install it on your console system. Not to mention the damn updates…

Older systems were ahead of their time because they’d allowed you to just pop in the game and play it.

Plus, I hate the hand holding in newer systems. They force tutorials on you. So you can almost never figure the first part of the game on your own. I don’t mind screen tips, but full on tutorials are annoying as f~~~.

I remember when I first played Pokemon Red and Blue. Almost no tutorials at all. Now, in the other generations, they basically force you to go through it.

I was all set to get a PS4. Then I heard they gimped the DLNA, video, amd music playback on it. So I waited to hear that they corrected that. And waited. And waited.

Then I got a $30 Raspberry Pi and put openelec and a few emulators on it. I never bought that PS4 after all. Without DLNA etc. it has nothing to offer me that’s even remotely worth what they’re charging for it. I don’t care how superior they claim the graphics etc. are: any system that lacks capabilities of the previous generation is NOT and upgrade. I may eventually build a steambox or the like if they ever release something like Portal 3, but I don’t see consoles offering value for money any more.

My gaming PC is 6+ years old, although I got a new graphics card about 3-4 years ago. It still runs everything that comes out. All I have to do is set shadows to low, and turn off whatever other dumb lighting gimmicks that don’t even look good off. The majority of graphics seem to be off textures, which don’t require much power.

I buy most of my games off GoG. Everything else I usually pirate. GoG is DRM free and you own the stuff for life. I have a few Steam games but I don’t like the DRM and the fact that I have to be online for it. I also have an MMO outside of both that I’ve paid for but can play for free as well, I play that maybe every couple of years or so when they make interesting changes.

Consoles don’t make any sense imo. With PC you also can re-use parts in future builds, so the first investment in terms of monitor, case, PSU, keyboard, mouse, even HDDs and stuff is the most expensive but then it gets re-used so it becomes pretty cheap. With console, you have to re-buy the entire thing, usually get controllers and accessories, and then need new games because you can’t play the old games anymore. I still play old games now sometimes, and even sometimes use emulation for even older console games. Few console games have been good imo since the PS2 era, which itself wasn’t as great. PSX era was probably the last era that had tons of console games that were really great to play. PS2 era was the beginning of the move towards mainstream and SJW-ized games, and then it really started becoming the majority by this era of consoles.

Anyway, whatever works for you is what you should do. You can even skip consoles and mostly just read books. But that’s another positive for PC usually, as I read most of my books off of my PC.

The biggest advances in computing technology you’ll see are: Larger memory allocations for texture sizes, approaching the point of photorealism. Increases in processing speed allow for rapid calculations for physics engines. Things like realistic lighting, real time shadow tracking, realistic fluid modeling, edge smoothing filters, etc all take a big toll on the GPU’s resources. I game exclusively on PCs. I haven’t bought a new console in ages, since I never played the one I bought. Honestly if I see a game that is “Platform X Only” Then I’ll either skip it, or get an emulator if I can’t live without it.
Working on my PC also affords me skills I would otherwise be bereft of. I will admit at times though I feel like I’m fixing a Thermal Drill in PayDay 2 (“Keep working you piece of s~~~”).

I plan to upgrade with a new console but you’re definitely on point. Most video game related products coming out have been subpar for sure lately much to my disappointment.

Any console-game is a downgrade from the PC-version, if they haven’t crimped it.

The graphics is pretty good, so the thing I focus on is the play-game of the thing, not how shiny or whatnot. I would wish the developers would focus less on graphics and more on content; choices etc. Ever since I realized most single-player games were on-rail, one-track FPS, I’ve always sought out sandbox-games were I could make my own choices. The worst are the ‘point and shoot’-things with nothing else.

At least Valve did something right with their Half Life-games, and most Hitman-games let you decide the best approach to the, ahh hmm, ‘problem’… 🙂

Then there’s the Fallout-games, and – finally! – they made the power-armor (in Fallout 4) not ‘special clothes’, but more like a ‘walking tank’ with movement, upgrades etc. I’ve passed the 1.100 played hours on that game , btw, since Nov 9’nth last year.

So, gaming is what I do when I don’t work, so to speak. 🙂

I agree. I think these modern consoles are a total gimmick. Unless they make the PS4 back compatible, I have no reason good enough to end my relationship with my PS3 which is back compatible. I have all my PS1, PS2 and PS3 games all stored on it. Another reason I don’t upgrade to the PS4 or even any XBOX systems is because all the games I do play are available to the PS3. So why should I get another system when the PS3 has all the games I want stored on it, and the PS4 games are also available to the PS3? It would make no sense to get a second PS system.

What I don’t like is that you can’t just buy the game straight out anymore. They have dozens of add-ons like avatars, icons, levels, costumes, weapons, accessories, etc. It’s not like back in the pre-PS3 eras where when you bought the game, you bought the entire thing as one and you were ready to go. No they want you to buy the game plus a bunch of stupid additions.

The graphics are nice, yes, but I don’t think it made the games better. Take Resident Evil for example, I still believe the original Director’s Cut for the PS1 was the best of the Resident Evil games, and the 1996-style graphics made the mansion in the game scarier. I hate the giant spiders in the PS1 Resident Evils to the point, I don’t like looking at them, but since the Remake graphics, I can take it better. My point is, I don’t think the fancy graphics make the games better; it just makes it more expensive.

I never play games online, because I like playing alone. Usually on the other end, there’s always someone acting like an asshole. And I don’t want some jerk on the other end ruining the gaming experience for me. I hate being punked around by some jerk teenager. My only reason for having my PS3 hooked up to the Net is for the PlayStation Store, nothing else.

I don’t like the way games are controlled anymore. With the last 4 years of Resident Evil, I don’t like I have to do more commands just to do something. I don’t like having to control both the camera and the play character to maneuver around. Resident Evil 6 was like that. I don’t mind the Resident Evil 4 and 5 way where when you move the character, the camera went with you. I don’t mind that kind of style. Plus, these games have too much going on in them. Too many controls, too much action, too much movement, which leads to too much stress. Games are more fast and stressful now. It’s not like back in the day you can play a game that’s slower paced and it was relaxing and it was fun. Basically you’re just paying PlayStation or Microsoft for the stresses and frustrations those games give you.

I might go to the PS4, but under one condition; they make it to where I can keep all the games I have available on my PS3, which are my PS1, 2 and 3 games and saves. If not, they don’t deserve my money. The only thing worrying me now is that Resident Evil 2 Remake is available to the PS4, but not the 3.
