I’ve been looking pretty hard for the last two weeks. Online applications and then I moved over to job fairs.

This, fellas, is a total game changer. Just showing up, meeting and greeting companies, handing them your resume. No I haven’t landed anything yet, but I can say that it’s all billion times better than just submitting online resumes.

I still say do it all. Online, sending emails, asking friends if anyone is hiring etc. After getting out and going to two job fairs so far I have to say it’s always been about who you know. That will always Trump any skills you possess (unless you’re literally the best programmer or STEM guy on earth). Most jobs though can be done by anyone with the proper TRAINING, and every new job always has a probationary training period.

The first job fair I attended was held at the dept of labor in Brooklyn. I got there early and it was already packed. It started at 9am and by the time I left by 11am or so (it was a mini fair), there was a line around the block.

I was also the best dressed one there, and probably the youngest looking person there as well. It was 99 percent all black and Indian people. One guy, big chubby Jamaican guy was 52 and looking for work. 52 f~~~ing two years old. F~~~.

Everyone looked either strung out, exhausted or p~~~ed off at the World.

The amount of older looking women there wasn’t really shocking to me since I know the stats on women and unemployment (mgtow actually read up on that s~~~). We already know women don’t save and most women over 40 are already on some social security or public aid.

There were only about 8 businesses total there. The mta was there but they were only directing people to go online and sign up for the exams available.

Chic fila was there and they seemed cool (I may end up attending one of their group interviews). Lots of health care related companies were there.

I have an interview with Merci Aid next Tuesday for a position as the people who go by the homes of the elderly and check up on them (clean up etc). The glass door reviews of the company are abysmal, everything from drama to s~~~ty management. I’m literally going to practice on my interviewing skills.

From what I can see right now it looks like I could easily get a job working for a Healthcare company looking after old people traveling to their homes. The amount of seniors in NYC is HUGE and most of them aren’t able to pay for a nursing home. It’s probably grueling work but if I don’t have to be in an office and they at least pay 14.00 an hour with flexible hours I may try it.

I also have an interview with whole foods later today (it’s a group interview, business causal). I’m not a fan of group interviews but I’m still going, to get my practice on. I found it online on Monday and they emailed me back to attend. I assume there will be a couple hundred people there for that and it’s literally just for a few part time positions (I had applied for delivery driver but they’re hiring for everything).

Before I mention the next job fair I wanted to mention the state of these government offices like the department of labor and the social security department. I heard about these job fairs by visiting my local unemployment office which was next to the social security office. That s~~~ had a line around the block, all old people.

If you want to get a reality check of how bad things are in terms of employment numbers just go hang out in front of any department of labor building. Seriously, these people look like they’re all in their 50’s, they don’t even look like they own a computer or cell phone.

These are the people who are being wiped off the demographic. Millenials think they have problems, at least they have their youth.

The reason why the unemployment numbers are f~~~ed is because they only apply the stats to people who are “LOOKING” for work. The amount of people who aren’t working and have stopped looking is insane. I’m not collecting unemployment and don’t even want to. But if was in my 50s and still jobless I’d probably have no choice.

IMO if you have to come to the department of labor to use a computer to fill out online applications you’re pretty much already f~~~ed. This world is passing people by who have not tried to adapt to the times.

It really is about who you know, relationships you’ve developed, and sadly social media can help in that department, if you know how to naje it work.

I thought I could go about this all on my own but getting out there and shaking hands I realize that’s the dumbest thing anyone can do when it comes to trying to get a decent paying job where the people you work with actually want to see you succeed.

After I left the department of labor, seeing that line around the block full of old desperate looking people, s~~~ got real for me right then and there. NYC is great for convenience but Holy f~~~, there’s so many people living here per square inch that the competition for getting a job is insane.

I don’t even know how these recruiters were coping having to collect so many Goddamn resumes and shake all those germ filled hands.

    2nd job fair:

At a hotel in Manhattan. I get there early as well and wait outside for an hour in the freezing cold until they let us in. They let us in incrementally so the room we were in never felt that full. Many more companies at this one but it was mainly all sales and Healthcare.
I found myself telling most of them that even though I was looking for a technician type position I may not mind trying something in Healthcare or solar panel sales.

The army and marines were there along with more DCAS (city jobs) and new york state agencies.

Out of everyone I talked with it seems like the health care stuff is the easiest chance to get employment asap. They’re dying for bodies, but one that I spoke with only pays 13 an hour (they did have union benefits though).

Again, I got mad compliments on my sharp dressing skills but still no definitive offers. As I was leaving this one dude introduced himself as head of recruiting for this programming company. They have contracts with the city but I told him I don’t know s~~~ about programming code.

I could try and learn code on my own time via the code academy, but I need a paying job asap right now. Nice guy but it’s crazy how the demand for programmers just keeps growing.

I’ve tried sitting in front of a computer staring at code and it certainly takes a certain type of introverted person to be able to endure that s~~~.

As I was leaving, the line outside wasn’t that long, but it was so cold that I assume people just left instead of waiting.

Tons of women were there btw. S~~~ tons of women. Older men too. I’m really amazed at how much most of these men let themselves go. This s~~~ is a war out here and you need to look your best.

F~~~ man, I feel like starting my own youtube channel dedicated to helping men look the best that they can through diet and mental affirmations (first things first, gotta climb this mountain first).

One guy I ran into in line had been in the army and worked as a security guard at a hospital. He makes 47k (which is good pay for NYC) and was still looking for more work, said he was done working in a hospital (maybe his boss is a dick).

I’m gonna be going to job fairs for the next couple years at this point. This s~~~ is about to become a lifestyle. Being my second job fair I’m def rusty, so here we go.

I’ll post later how the interviews go.

Good luck brother. You are articulate, intelligent and well dressed. You already have a huge advantage and will definately get employed.

Good luck brother. You are articulate, intelligent and well dressed. You already have a huge advantage and will definately get employed.

Yeah man, it’s honestly shooting the s~~~ with thess guys and conveying to them that you have the zest to represent what ever position they have open. As employees of any company we’re walking billboards.

I’m still trying to get into a trade apprenticeship because once you master a trade they don’t give a f~~~ if you snort coke and bang hookers raw dog. They only care about your skills. People are litterally killing for an apprenticeship here. It’s like winning the lottery because you’re easily making over 100k after 4 years.

The first booth I walked up to at the second job fair gave me a pretty hard time and it caught me off guard. The guy kept busting my b~~~~ that my resume didn’t have any customer service related stuff on there even though I was telling him right then and there that most of the what I do in av tech is very client friendly.
He got me pretty good and now I know how I’d deal with someone like him in the future. It was clearly a s~~~ test to see if I’d buckle. I told him I’d send them another resume with that had customer service experience on it lol (I’m not gonna do that lol).

What I should have done was cut him off and explain that he can hear from my lips right then and there and then calmly hand him a copy of my references that he could call and ask if I had good social skills with customers etc.

He was obviously testing me because the very chat we were having already showed them that I wasn’t a shy guy who didn’t know how to shoot the s~~~.

That’s what I meant by being rusty, because I’d usually shut down a s~~~ test like that without question. The job seemed pretty easy too. I’d be driving a van around the city dropping off linens and maintaining relationships with each client account making sure there were no issues with the orders etc. Oh well, their loss lol

I couldn’t imagine looking for a job at my age. No one is going to hire a 63 year old unless it’s a personal acquaintance. Again, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. Good luck on your job search. Remember, no matter how tight the job market is, you’re only looking for

      one job. Stay the course.

Good luck out there, lots of jobs but tons of people looking for them, while word of mouth is the best way to get hired, many jobs are just combing through tons of resumes and picking a few to interview, then taking the best of the lot. At least in my area.

No longer can we walk away, we must run. Remove the motive power.

Yea its a crap shoot out here. I had one job basically in the bag and then I get an email from the recruiter that they had to reevaluate their budget and unfortunately couldnt bring me on. DAMMIT.. I dont want to lose hope but It sucks to know that with my life insurance policy, I’m worth more dead than alive at this point.

Don’t be afraid to “customise” your resume depending on the jobs your are applying for. If they want customer service experience, then tweak the resume to reflect that.

Yes, I am suggesting creative writing, lying, whatever it takes. If you can fake it once they hire you then who cares what it took to get there. F~~~, women bulls~~~ their whole way through life and get by. Then some idiot hires them before finding out they are basically useless in the role anyway !

Tell them what they want to hear. Tell them you have your own means of transport and are available for all shifts at all hours. If you get an interview, surprise them with a bit of knowledge about the company (do some research) and if they ask you if you have any questions, be ready with an intelligent one. ( not necessarily about the salary though !)

If they ask about your hobbies, don’t mention mundane s~~~ like gaming or so on, but maybe tell them you are learning a new language online or coding or something that makes you look smart. Employers love that s~~~.

If they ask for references, give them the name of some guy in the military who you once worked for. (but make sure he is either dead, on deployment or never existed so you don’t get caught out) People value references from ex military guys.

Lots of things you can do to improve your chances and stand out from the sheep.

Join a STEM trade under a lineman, utility, or apprentice. Hospitals, airports, and utilities are always growing and are usually hold secure positions of employment.

Being a Union Engineer for 10+ years so far has been great. Great pay, off all holidays (if I want), no cubicles, no suits (jeans and boots), lots of OT, and best of all no women!

Good work isn’t cheap and cheap work isn’t good. Support your local Union.

That’s the goal. I’m definitely going to keep applying for construction apprenticeships while working a basic menial job.

I just got back from the Whole Foods Interview and things went real well. They just emailed me that I’ve been selected for a second round of interviews (one on one this time). Being dressed well and smiling and attentive seem to be working real good for me. This position is part time but I can swing three days and work another job so long as I get to put on resume that I work for Amazon (which now owns whole foods). After the interview instead of go home I decided, since I was already in the city, to walk over to Trader Joes and apply there as well.

The lady I spoke with was all about my application and my flexibility. I even told her that I’d just come from a whole foods interview and she got all defensive talking up Trader joes. Trader Joes pays 15.00 an hour starting while Whole foods is only 13.50 starting. I’ll probably take Trader joes if they offer me more hours, but if I can figure out a way to work at both WF and TJ that would be dope. Both had decent benefits as well.

Either way, I was very surprised that this went as well as it did with both spots. I’m still going to follow up with all the other interviews I have scheduled for next week because I still haven’t been made any offers, but this is definitely progress. I am not taking anything to chance any more.

Gonna use this weekend to keep doing research and prepping for all the job interviews coming up. Stay Tuned

Job hunting is a skill I don’t have. I’m employed but looking for a better job. I plan on practicing interviewing as much as possible as it’s definitely my weakness.

Keep putting in the effort and just keep getting better at it. Perseverance is key. I wish you the best brother!

While that may be true, it’s a skill that you’re teaching yourself and that’s all that matters.

I’ll wish you good luck, brother, even though I know you’re going to make all the luck you need.
