Anyone or any group that wants to ban free speech does so because they believe their own view-points will be protected while opposing view-points will be suppressed/punished.

Back in the 60s, hippies had opinions which would have being suppressed if it wasn’t for Free Speech, hence why they supported Free Speech.

Nowadays, feminists and SJWs have opinions which the government and MSM support(for the moment at least) even without the protections of Free Speech, hence why they are arguing for the banning of Free Speech.

The word you need to worry about is the word amendment, which according to the dictionary means “a minor change to improve a text or piece of legislation”, if they were able to change the rules before, they could change the rules again, possibly to the detriment of the people.
