The Geminid meteor shower is peaking today, Dec. 14th, as Earth passes through a stream of gravelly debris from rock comet 3200 Phaethon. Spotters working with the International Meteor Organization are reporting as many as 80 meteors per hour in ideally-dark observing sites:

I hope a rare metals meteor (platinum) the size of a garbage can lands here in one piece! I’ll sell it on eBay and RETIRE! IN LUXURY!

Why, oh Why can’t one of those big as rocks slam into the planet somewhere and cause a mass extinction? I’d f~~~ing LOVE to have that be my last vision on Earth! LoL

And of course it’s gonna’ be cloudy tonight. Damn clouds messed up my chance to see the total eclipse in August. I got to see the lame partial where I live, but where I wanted to drive to see totality, it was supposed to be raining so I didn’t go.

Tomorrow night’s supposed to be clear, maybe there’ll be a few to see then.

Ya never know Brother, those clouds could break for an hour or two and you could have a memorable experience. Although 80 per hour isn’t the best rate count, it is still considerable and there is always a chance of a meteor storm

    That ^ actually happened.

I watched for about an hour last night and it was pretty good. About one every five minutes—but we had light clouds too.

I appreciate your optimism, my friend, but it’s supposed to be cloudy all night. I will go out a few times tonight to check though, even though I’ve read the best time is really early before sunrise. I’m not gettin’ up that early.

Can’t see the stars due to the city lights. Kind of sucks. So, no meteor shower for me.

I saw two meteors last night during my walk from the house to the car.

Drive about 20 minutes away from whatever town you’re in, lie down on the ground and let your eyes adjust to the dark and your gaze relax and you’ll see plenty.

The weather report was unfortunately dead on with all the cloud cover. Couldn’t see s~~~ above the clouds. Hopefully there will be some clear skies and left over meteors tonight.
