A buddy of mine at the deer lease, 63 years old, told me about his pursuit of a woman who he’d recently met. Turns out that several years ago said woman had contracted me to inspect a house she owned with her previous husband to determine its condition so it could be valued for settlement during the divorce she’d initiated.

During the inspection, she rained invective and accusation upon her soon-to-be ex to the point he summoned law enforcement to keep her separated from him lest violence erupt. Throughout the ordeal, she tried to direct me to include things in the inspection report that were trivial and non-existent, forcing her to re-direct the angst she couldn’t dump on her ex upon me.

I tried to explain her mental state to my buddy but of course both love and lust are blind. Undeterred, he texted her requesting a date. Her response was positive, but left him perplexed. Handing his phone to me, I read her response: “I’d love to go out with you, but you have to understand I’m an expensive girl (a misnomer as, at her age of 57, “girl” is about the least descriptive term I could imagine).”

Noting his confusion at what he just read, I got his permission to formulate a response which read: “I have reconsidered and at my age, I find it unwise to pay in excess of normal retail price for a depreciating asset that is more economically rented.”

It took some supervision, but after a while he found her repeated responses quite entertaining. The escalation in anger in invective increased in order of magnitude for each hour he ignored her. He has found the true nirvana of ghosting…….

She tried to get you to lie and then got mad at you when you wouldn’t.
She tried to get you to compromise your honor and ethics.

Even at the not so tender age of 57, she’s trying to cash in on a well used, dried out, stretched out, wrinkled up old gash. She too will wonder some day soon, why she’s all alone except for about 100 cats that fill her lovely home !!
