Those sources are usually also the ones trying to tell you they were all attacked by bigfoots.

They might have been ‘expert hikers’ (whatever that means – weren’t they all on skis?), but they walked into a situation where they needed to be expert mountaineers. I think only one of them was over 24, and he was only in his ’30s. Nobody is an expert mountaineer at 23. I know I thought I was at the time, but now I know better.

An expert mountaineer would have taken one look at that incoming weather and said: “F~~~ it. We’ll try this one another day,” and walked back down. A successful climb is always one where you get back down off the mountain. Getting to the top is just an added bonus. If you summit and then die on the descent, it doesn’t count.
