Three students at a central California high school were injured Tuesday when a teacher fired a gun inside of a classroom during a firearms safety course, according to police and local reports.

Now for the rest of the story:
* The school teacher is also a Reserve Police Officer in a neighboring city.
* He is also a City Councilman for the City the school is located in.
* Teachers are not authorized to carry a firearm on school property within the State of California.
* The teacher claimed that he was ensuring that the firearm was not loaded.
* This occurred at 10:30am, well after the school day had begun.
* The firearm in question can be visually checked to determine if there is a round in the chamber.
* The most severely injured student was not treated for injuries that included open wound(s) and loss of blood.
* The teacher has been placed on administrative leave from both the school and police department.

Given that this happened in the most repressive Gun Rights state in the United States, any chance of having a balanced and open conversation regarding school personnel becoming authorized to carry firearms (concealed or open) is a moot point.

Guns truly do not injure people in accidental shootings, only very very stupid people are the cause of accidental discharges.

I know a guy who was a military policeman in the 1960s. He claims that the procedure where he was stationed was that they’d each sign a pistol out at the beginning of their watch and turn it in at the end. The MPs were required to clear their weapons before turning them in. He said that as part of the process for turning the pistols in, the gun would be pointed in a safe direction and the trigger pulled, and if a round was fired, the borrower of that pistol was subject to court martial.

I can’t even comprehend the level of stupidity/incompetence of this teacher.
I’ve seen people like this at the shooting range on multiple occasions, they have absolutely no business handling/owning a firearm.

This seems to be what News Media is reporting, however in the U.S. almost every Medical Professional has tried to prescribe some type of unnecessary prescription pill over the past 40 years.

Topic for another conversation, but the Medical Professional & Pharmaceutical Industry relationship is just outrageous.

Absolutely correct and still policy. Any accidental discharge of a weapon initiates an Article 15 hearing. While circumstantial evidence might result in serious charges being dropped, the basic issue is that the service member did not properly clear their weapon at the clearing station prior to leaving the assigned duty position/station.

Once again, personal misconduct and failure to follow policies and procedures caused the weapon to be needlessly discharged. Only those who have served know how many, many hours are sent on weapons related training, classes and briefings.

Exactly! This is where the government needs to be stationed and empowered to remove weapons from the hands of IDIOTS. Firearms, blades, clubs, books with pictures, any and all of these should be removed and a big brand placed on their forehead that prevents them from ever possessing such again.

This also means he is not protected by government sovereignty clauses. And in many cases RPOs are not even armed by the department.

This guy is why i don’t just want a blanket arming of teachers. Especially women teachers. We don’t need more unstable people who don’t know guns, and will use them unnecessarily because of poorer judgment and physical weakness. This guy would be one of the best with those credentials and he f~~~s it up. I dont want the average feminist liberal mentally-unstable man-hating female teacher armed in school. They will just be surprise knockout targets to get a weapon from.

These people have taken one of the easiest college degree jobs ever made, get summers off, and have no accountability or risk of losing a job through any performance related reason, and they did it on purpose. they are not military or officers, or even jail wardens. Jailers do not even walk around the jail armed witna pistol so that the firearm can’t be used against them. The school areturning into jails and they are trying to make the teachers armed guards.

Its a recpe for disaster. Every once in awhile I drive by my old high school. It has been progressively turned into a f~~~ing fortress prison. We had a nice olympic pool with huge glass windows from floor to ceiling that opened in the summer for breezes, those are al gone replaced with brick walls. Every addition was brick, heavy masonry, fortifying the place into a complex you can’t go back to and see your old teachers anymore without facing interrogation and a few vials of blood.

Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.

This was usually not an issue with weapons turnover on the day to day based on the procedure, at least in the Navy. The trigger was never pulled during the entirety of the procedure. Especially since some of the weapons get cleared IN the boat. definitely a no no.As of 2015.
