I remember seeing Grease and Star Wars at the theatre when they were actually new movies.

I remember the excitement of church fairs, and small town parades.

I remember LIFE before vcr’s, dvd players. computers, cel phones, cable TV etc. etc.

I remember adjusting the antenna on the TV.

I remember when the first Sony Walkman radio was high tech.

I remember the “importance” of the daily newspaper.

    I remember when 70’s/80’s music wasn’t classic.

I remember when paneling and shag carpeting was “stylish”.

I remember what TV shows and movies used to be like.

I remember hot rods that had chrome bumpers, air shocks, Crager mags and 60’s in the rear around every corner.

    I remember cruising with buds.

I remember a less hurried smaller world.

I remember when “every kid had a pretty good shot to get at least as far as his old man got.”

I remember when Bruce Springsteen used to sing about this “old” America.

I remember when actors like Johnny Cash and John Wayne stood up for America and didn’t make a career out of tearing it apart.

I remember the day that Elvis died.

    I remember bell bottoms.

I remember when scoring a case of Natural Light was a big deal.

I remember drinking beers in the woods with bonfires.

I remember what “girls” used to be like when I was young, dumb, and full of cum.

I remember 8 tracks, cassette and vinyl.

I remember so many things that “shall never pass this way again.”

I wonder whatever happened to that Matrix…….

“That matrix” is still alive in you, and in your peers who experienced it and created today’s present matrix.

Man, you’re old dude………which means that I am old as well. LOL I saw Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back in the theater.

Going to the carnival was great excitement.

“Renting” a VCR to watch movies was pretty exciting too.

I remember having to get up out of the chair to turn the channel and the old knob went “clunk, clunk, clunk” and then you had to fine tune it. We only got three channels and one of them barely came in. On certain nights, really late, the weather would be just right and you could almost get another channel that you normally would not get any other time.

My first little transistor radio, wow!

Listening to that great old music on AM. There was no such thing as FM in our school bus or our cars and trucks.

Sanford and Son, Barney Miller, All in the Family………..great old TV shows.

Bell bottoms were the only jeans I’d wear.

I played my cassette tapes over and over. I refused to get a CD player……until they stopped making cassettes. I think I was the last person in the world to finally buy a CD player and replace all my music tapes with CDs.

It was a better world back then. Life was much slower and more peaceful and simpler. There was much less stress. Seems as though the sun was brighter back then and I know the air smelled fresher. Life was much less complicated. There were times when the most important thing I had planned for the next day was hoping for a good wind to get my paper kite up in the air…………..

I know there is the tendency to look back at “the good old days” with nostalgia, but I was generally very happy growing up in the 70s – 90s. There was a good vibe in the country. Starting in the 80s, America was booming again and people had a sense of community and patriotism.

I attribute a lot of the crap we deal with today due to the rise of 4th and 5th+ wave of feminism and the ubiquitous ‘smart’ phone.

I wish it was the Summer of 1976 so that I could walk into my local Pontiac dealership today and order a NEW 1977 Trans Am Smokey and the Bandit Edition loaded with all options to include the Hurst T-Tops, 4 speed standard transmission with the W-72 handling package.

I would celebrate by going to the new mall where I would enjoy a pizza at Papa Gino’s and a few games of pinball before going to see Rocky.

Now, that would have been the day of a lifetime……

Today, I have no passion for the overpriced cars without any soul or most restaurants, video games, or movies.

Just a little bit of that still exists around here. The small towns are dirt-poor and the younger generations move away as fast as they can manage, but each little town still has its own parade to celebrate fall, or spring, or the anniversary of the town’s founding, or something else.

I still remember buying what I thought would be my last vinyl record, in 1992, as all the music stores were transitioning to CDs (remember the special holders they had during this time, so that the CDs in their small jewel cases could be displayed in the existing record displays…. or CD singles on 3″ discs?) Now I collect vinyl albums — not because of their supposed sonic differences, but because I like listening oddball recordings (gospel albums from now-gone groups once based in cities nearby; test pressings; early rap; etc.)

I also have two manual typewriters…

Back when Bruce was worth listening to…..Yeah, those days are gone too…

I couldn’t appreciate just how good those times were and could have even been better if I was only to know much worse LIFE WOULD BECOME. LOL

Agreed. Side note, Born in the USA tour was my first concert. Saw it in Mile High Stadium. Pretty epic.
