Anonymous7I have been thinking about getting a take down bow for my bug out bag. I have plain jane compound that works well but I want something that will break down and fit into a pack.
So far I am leaning towards the SAS or the Primal gear.
Anyone have pack bow?
Recommendations, reviews?
Anonymous42Anyone have pack bow?
Recommendations, reviews?Seriously? I would consider a sonic air rifle with thousands of rounds, small game is easy to hit every time! You won’t starve waiting for big game to come along only to miss the target.

Anonymous7Seriously?
Yeah seriously.
I already have arms and ammo suitable for small to medium game. This would be for backup in case the good stuff fails.
It is the same reason why I keep a deadfall trap in the bag. I hope I am never in a situation where I would need it but glad I had it if I were.
Anonymous42I like the idea that thousands of rounds fit in a small space, no bulky ammo.
Personally, I like looking through a scope!
Anything with a scope!

Anything with a scope!Ha! I do too. Almost as much as I like scatter guns.
If I am in a situation where I am trying to use a pack bow to feed or defend my self then I am already f~~~ed but not to have a backup would be royally f~~~ed.
.22 long rifle has killed more game than any other weapon. Lots of take down models available fairly cheap. Ammo is only slightly heaver than air gun pellets.
Would it be my first choice? No, but I would not feel bad if it was my only choice due to circumstances.
For the gun nut, look into 6.5 Grendel. Way cool round for an AR.

Can one fit in a backpack though ?
Nice thread, Grue. I’ve thought about it, but haven’t done it…
What a prepper, I am. haha

No doubt the .22 LR is handy as s~~~. IIRC the .22 has killed more people than any other round.
I don’t want a pack bow b/c it is awesome I want one as a last resort backup.
I have s~~~ that can clear a deck, drive nails at a 100yds, make small/medium game dead in less than a heartbeat.
For f~~~s sakes dudes go wild boar hunting with air rifles.
I can kill you with a framing hammer……..
The point is to have a reliable emergency-emergency back up weapon that is always in my bag.
If all else fails I can make an arrow (it would be a s~~~ty one) from s~~~ that grows naturally. Can you make a round for a .22 from s~~~ in the woods?

Thx man.
I made my decision. I did not go with a “tactical” breakdown bow. While they are cool they somehow seemed less.
I ordered a breakdown recurve bow that is capable of bringing down small/medium size game and put a bitch down The Walking Dead style.
Again, don’t get me wrong…. Boom Sticks are preferred. This is purely plan D backup.
Since it’s plan D I’d choose the one that packs smallest or lightest that fits in your budget. I’ve even seen some sling bows that are interesting. Same physical movement, but uses elastics instead of limb tension so longevity could be a longterm issue.
I failed to realize in my youth that I was the prize. I was going to work. I was going to earn. Little did I realize that due to feminism, that no longer meant I had to share. Road soon, Desert after.
Boom Sticks are preferred.
Once you have a boomstick, keeping it fed is just a matter of some very basic chemistry. Your average pump 12 gauge isn’t exactly a picky eater, and all brass shells can be reloaded almost indefinitely even in very primitive conditions.
While I was in Oklahoma working I purchased an air rifle with two interchangeable barrels .177 and 22 cal the .177 shoots faster but I like the 22 for squirrel or rabbit it came with a scope and when sighted in proper the .177 will hit consistent at 100 yards if I aim high and adjust for the wind. the 22 at that distance is sketchy hitting half the time. still for survival not war you are right on about an air rifle. Mine is so fun to shoot.
I was bound to be misunderstood, and I laugh at those who misunderstand me. Kind mockery at the well intentioned, but unfettered cruelty towards those would be prison guards of my creative possibilities. This so as to learn as much from misunderstanding as from understanding. Taking pleasure in worthy opponents and making language fluid and flowing like a river yet pointed and precise as a dagger. Contradicts the socialistic purpose of language and makes for a wonderful linguistic dance, A verbal martial art with constant parries that hone the weapon that is the two edged sword of my mouth.

Wouldn’t you eventually run out of pellets? How would you make more? I’ve never seen a pellet mold. Are they even cast, or are they stamped?
I still think a 12 gauge boomstick with a s~~~load of infinitely reloadable brass shells is the best all around option. Unlike a rifle, air or otherwise, scatterguns aren’t picky about shot size, and you can find off the shelf molds for casting just about anything for them. Compared to bows, accurate arrows are tricky and complicated, but anyone can cast slugs or just dribble lead off a cliff for a makeshift “shot tower”. Also shells can be tailored for everything from dust shot for mice to slugs for bear and anything in between, all from the same shotgun.
Sidecar asked:

but they are small and
you can Cary so many.
I would not try making more.
Not sure how they do it.
