Safe Zones

Iran, Turkey and Russia have signed a memorandum on the creation of four security zones in Syria during another round of the peace talks in Astana on May 4. According to the document, security zones were proposed in the province of Idlib, in the area north of the city of Homs, in Eastern Ghouta near Damascus and in southern Syria.

The Russian Defense Ministry has announced that the agreement on safe zones in Syria will come into force on Friday at 21:00 GMT. Thus, military activities and aircraft flights in the safe zones will be banned starting from May 6.

Speaking from the Syria summit in the Kazakh capital, Astana, on Thursday, Russian envoy Alexander Lavrentyev said that Syrian government fighter jets are also not expected to fly over the “de-escalation” zones for six months.

Russian military aircraft will refrain from flying over such areas, he added, unless there are what he described as attempts to destabilise the situation

Whether through air support or ground troops, these safe zones were intended to protect civilians from violence, contain their displacement within their countries, and provide humanitarian relief.

Proponents of safe zones in Syria argue that they represent the best way to stem the refugee crisis and to keep most Syrians close to their homes. Doing so would also provide the space and means to provide much-needed services to Syrians affected by the war, whether in healthcare or education.

Backed militarily by a multilateral force, the safe zone would prevent regime and rebel forces from attacking civilians and would provide some semblance of protection and stability amid the chaos of the conflict.

“Guarantors within five days after signing the memorandum will create a working group at the level of authorized representatives to determine the boundaries of disarmament, areas of tension and security areas, as well as to address technical issues related to the implementation of the memorandum,” the text of the document reads.

All technical issues, including borders of the zones, should be solved by 22nd May. The next round of the Astana peace talks will take place in mid-July when the trilateral group will report about the process of the reconciliation.

In containing civilians in northern Syria, the safe zones would certainly reduce the number of refugees making their way to Europe.

For this reason, many European leaders support the strategy as a way of confronting the refugee crisis at its root.

Around 42,000 opposition fighters currently remain on the territory of the four security zones, with the majority of the militants located in Idlib (14,500) and near the Jordanian border (15,000), according to Russian estimates.

The establishment of safe zones doesn’t mean that the fight against Islamic State, Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist groups will stop in the country. On the contrary, the move will allow Syria to free additional forces to tackle the jihadists, Russia’s Defense Ministry said.

Dier Ezzor

If the initiative achieves at least partly success, this will likely mean that in May or June the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allied forces, backed up by Russia and Iran, will launch a large operation against ISIS in central Syria, aiming to reach the key city of Deir Ezzor besieged by ISIS. However, these will be possible only if the situation near Damascus, Daraa and Homs is calm.

Opposition sources also reported about a redeployment of the large number of ISIS militants to Deir Ezzor. This move is likely a preparation for a large operation against the SAA in the city. This move followed reports that the Syrian military is deplyoing elite Tiger Forces fighters to the area of Palmyra ahead of a long-expected push in the direction of Deir Ezzor.

The SAA is preparing to first launch an operation from the city of Palmyra to capture the town of Sukhnah, located on the road of Palmyra-Deir Ezzor – about 50 km east of Palmyra.

The goal of the operation is to set a foothold for a further advance on the key Syrian city of Deir Ezzor besieged by ISIS terrorists.

SAA have already took control of the electricity company in the southern part of Deir Ezzor. Thus, they are now close to breaking the siege of ISIS on the Deir Ezzor military airport.

The Syrian military command has been redeploying the elite Tiger Forces of the Syrian Arab Army from the northern Hama countryside to the area of the ancient city of Palmyra, according to reports of local journalists and some military souces.

The redeployment of the Tiger Forces to Palmyra followed the de-facto end of government forces offensive attempts in northern Hama. The Syrian military had regaimed the all areas lost to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and its allies in March and even gained additional ground.

From its side, ISIS launched a violent attack on SAA positions in the districts of Rasafa and Hrabesh in Deir Ezzor and bombed civilians in еру Al-Qusour district using armed drones killing a child and injuring several civilians.

On Friday, the Russian Defense Ministry also confirmed that government forces, backed up by the Russian Aerospacce Forces, will develop the advance west of Palmyra.

This liberation of the city of Sukhnah can be considered as the first phase of a broader effort aimed at lifting the siege from the SAA forces in the city of Deir Ezzor

The Russian Aerospace Forces’ warplanes and attack helicopters will provide an air support to Syrian forces during the operation, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

Yesterday, the SAA took control of 4 high points located west of the area of the “Talila Reserve” 18km east of Palmyra. The SAA and Syrian Hezbollah are developing their operation in the eastern Homs countryside against ISIS.

Qaboun

The SAA, led by the 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard, stormed the remaining militant defense lines in the southeastern part of the Qaboun district in eastern Damascus and captured a number of buildings from Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and the Al-Rahman Corps.

Reports appeared that dozens of members of HTS and the Al-Rahman Corps fled the Al-Qaboun district and arrived the Eastern Ghouta through underground tunnels. They will help their counterparts in the ongoing fight against Jaish al-Islam in Eastern Ghouta. If confirmed, this move will weaken further militant defenses in Qaboun and will lead to more gains by pro-government forces.

There are also reports that Qaboun militants and government representatives are now negotiating on a possible withdrawal agreement from the area. This is another move that could lead to a full liberation of the area.

In Eastern Ghouta, the Al-Rahman Corps and HTS launched an attack against Jaish al-Islam in the town of Arbeen. The Al-Rahman Corps and the HTS seized a major part of the town after a fierce battle with Jaish al-Islam members. The fighting is ongoing.

Tabqah

On May 5, the SDF press center officially said that clashes continued in northern Tabqah and near the Tabqah dam controlled by ISIS against the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) .

A SDF military commander, Jihan Sheikh Ahmed, has denied reports that the SDF allowed militants and their families to withdraw from the town of Tabqa.

Local sources reported that ISIS snipers are firing at any civilian trying to leave the villages of Safsafa, Abad or Sahl Khashab in the vicinity of Tabqa town.

There are two reasons for Syria –

The first to get ISIS to Iran and then to the Donbass region, through Chechnya / Serbia and then into Russia and southwest China using the Uighur. This is the long term plan by the neocons and Saudi Arabia. Libya and Iraq were dominoes on this road. The tactics applied in Ukraine will be tried again.

False flags will be used to blame Russia for aggression like in Ukraine and whip up hysteria. Except this time Russia will not back down. Then it will be NATO against Russia / China. Not a good outcome.

That is why Syria cannot fall. Both sides know this.

The short term reason is purely commercial. If Washington has a puppet president the gas pipeline project backed bu US-EU interests will succeed over the Russia Syria Iran pipleline

Ukraine is held by the neo-nazis under Poroshenko and he runs a badly trained group of ultra-nationalists who kill anyone they think is a threat to their power base. This group of murderers is recognised by the EU and Washington – since they started the Maidan coup to destabilise western Russia and Crimea.

However the GRU supported Donbass is now declaring autonomy. Poroshenko’s regime is in shambles and he may not outlast his term.

Ukraine cannot help the West and it cannot stand against a counter-revolution that may take place when the eastern Ukrainian rebels feel the time is right.

In the middle east – regardless of how we feel about muslims Iran and Syria are the only two with a functional government that can stand against ISIS. The Wahabi muslims (Saudi) will not rest until they kill everyone and Israel is affiliated with ISIS as a sponsor.

The middle east has been like this for the last 5000 years because muslims and their ancestors like to kill each other for fun and profit.

The Middle East is irrelevant for its own sake except for oil production. The only reason it must not fall completely is the unavoidable major war that will start on Russia’s doorstep.

I don’t believe there is any question the Globalist would like Russia to collapse and be brought to heel and they will use any method or surrogate to do it.

Take a look at the date of that interview Yumbo, also, he is talking about a meeting that happened 10 days after 9/11. This means U.S. foreign policy was set in stone long ago, and it was likely planned before 9/11, unless you believe they came up with this plan in just 10 days. I am sure (and I believe you do know this too) that the events of 9/11 were orchestrated by Washington with Saudis to start the de-stabiliation of the middle east. So the timeframe for any war plans go way back before then. This is just a confirmation hat things happened for a very different reason.
