As interesting as this is. What role could such battleships have in the present day? The reason battleships went out of style was a single bomb from a plane, or torpedo from a submarine, could take out an entire battleship. From a warfare standpoint, in the Korea War onward, the only roles in warfare U.S. battleships had were logistical support and sea to land artillery attacks.

True, I don’t think the torpedo threat was considered.

I like the mega missile platform concept.

That is the point. Mega missile platforms already exist in the form of nuclear submarines. And submarines are far harder to track than battleships.

This is sounding like an expensive vanity project.

Don’t disagree, just think it would be cool.

Remember these were thought up in a different era.

I like military stuff so I thought Id share.

I’m with Fuast–the history of the Bismark, Yamamoto, Hood make it pretty clear big battle wagons are big targets. And as Juteland 1916 demonstrates the cost and potential for loss sometimes works against even committing them. At the start of WW II Italy had one of the largest Navy’s in the world–did they ever dare take on the British in the Med? Hell no.

BUT having seen the USS Alabama up close I can see Jan’s point those guns are really intimidating.

Not much. But when we finally get around to inventing the Wave Motion Gun…
