I’m sure there’s going to be lots of disagreement on this, but I am hopeful, and it feels like it, that we are moving away from the business as usual practice of kicking the can down the road and starting to have real solutions in place with foreign policy. In terms of US foreign policy, it seems like we always chose the solution that will placate the problem till the current president is out of office, but is known to cause a long term problem.
Regardless, I don’t think long term solutions that involve WW3, or even a small war, are really on the table. Trump will keep that threat on the table, knowing these smaller countries won’t risk calling any bluffs.
Still, although I think Trump is good at negotiations, I think he’s going to struggle with hidden agendas, both with foreign countries and with the internal ‘deep state’. In business, a deal that makes money for everyone is always good. In politics, no body wants that.
Ok. Then do it.
