My Father died nearly 3 years ago. Some of my fondest memories were our days out to preserved railway sites.
I always drove as he never passed his driving test but he could drive one of these….
I could also drive this monster, albeit on a private line at 15mph. My Father had an invested interest in the locomotive many years ago before it got sold on. It’s an LMS Black 5 built in 1937. It took 15 years to restore it back to running order.
Women are so bad, if they changed the law so I kept the house, I still wouldn't marry one. I'd rather be homeless.
That is some cool s~~~ and I’d imagine driving it was fun stuff. Thanks for sharing man
“Do not give your strength to women, nor your ways to that which destroys kings.” -Proverbs 31:3-
thanks for sharing your memory with us brother.
may your dad rest in peace.
great picture , and i must admit to being a bit jealous..Sorry about your Dad.
Locomotives like this remind me of the “Ohhhhh Yeahhhhh” song from Ferris Bueller’s day off:
"It seems like there's times a body gets struck down so low, there ain't a power on earth that can ever bring him up again. Seems like something inside dies so he don't even want to get up again. But he does."
I love those old puffers. I love the steam blasting sideways out of them. (Which reminds me of an iconic scene with Marilyn Monroe in Some Like It Hot, but I digress.)
I thank everyone who devoted his time and money to restoring and keeping up these wonderful machines.
Society asks MGTOWs: Why are you not making more tax-slaves?
There’s a certain charm about steam power that no modern system of propulsion can match. Unfortunately due to the bad economy and environmental rules, steam power has been relegated to nuclear energy and museum pieces.

There certainly is. I was born in 1966, the same year steam traction was removed completely from the main line. However some of the preserved examples are mainline registered and watching one at speed is majestic indeed.
Lets not forget it was great male engineers that invented the locomotives, the lines and infrastructure. In the UK we still use bridges, tunnels and viaducts built in the 1800’s. The early days of the railways were a massive game changer for freight and people movement and now benefits people all over the world. Truly one of the greatest engineering achievements in history.Women are so bad, if they changed the law so I kept the house, I still wouldn't marry one. I'd rather be homeless.
yup, there’s something about locomotives, boats, bridges, large machines or structures in general that are very atractive to a male mind.
Its the physical representation of male power and intelect.
When a group of men works together we put MEN ON THE MOON.
Women couldnt care less about a saturn V rocket.
When women get together they just generate noise and wasted time and effort.

Even better when a machine/object is both functional and beautiful. It’s the ultimate engineering accomplishment. Seems they don’t bother with that so much anymore though.
The MiG-21 is a good example of beautiful and functional.
Mig 21 is beautiful? Really? You must be confusing it with Mig 29

Mig 21 is beautiful? Really?
Some people do, yes. It’s also considered one of the most iconic fighters of the cold war and perhaps of all time.
I allways thought propeler driven airplanes prettier than jets, specially the p51 or the spitfire.
