As it turns out St. Patricks day falls on the same day as the old Roman Holiday Liberalia

Most Christian holidays fall near or on important old roman or pagan holidays. Most of the old roman or pagan holidays fall on important seasonal milestones. Back then knowing the seasonal milestones told the agrarian societies when to plant, harvest and what the upcoming season could be like. Don’t know the times harvests fail and your ass starves.
Men worked out the astronomic’s which kept them and thier children fed. What better way to signify how important these milestones were then by associating them with religion. That gets the women on board (muh feelings) and makes it a tradition passed down societally.

Yes, and the Astronomy involved in calculating these dates gave rise to Mathematics and Science. The dates were commemorated in Religious Ceremonies, thus the old Pagan Priests were also great Scientists.

I was bound to be misunderstood, and I laugh at those who misunderstand me.
