South Carolina debated seceding from the Union more than 150 years ago, one of the opening salvos of the Civil War. Now, the topic has come up again, amid a national debate over firearms and gun rights.
A trio of state House Republicans on Thursday quietly introduced a bill that would allow lawmakers to debate seceding from the U.S. “if the federal government confiscates legally purchased firearms in this State.”

They have to show they are doing something to oppose the Union.

I appreciate their zeal to support the 2nd Amendment, but this idea will serve only to be used against the Republicans.
“See, they still think just like they did in the Civil War…”
Further, South Carolina is hugely dependent on the Federal Government. “Okay folks, we will lose a third of our money, so roads and schools will go (further) in the crapper, and you’re going to lose SNAP/welfare and money for student financial aid…don’t you support this idea?”
Bold idea…zero positive traction…very likely to be used by Dems for huge negative press against Republicans.

Shaw Air Force Base is home to the Air Force’s largest combat F-16 wing.
Fort Jackson is the US Army’s largest initial entry training center.
Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Eastern Recruiting Region – Parris Island.
Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, home of the Marine Corps’ Atlantic Coast fixed-wing, fighter-attack aircraft assets, home to two Navy and seven Marine Corps F/A-18 squadrons.
Joint Base Charleston is host to over 60 Department of Defense and Federal agencies. The Wing delivers installation support to a total force of over 90,000 Airmen, sailors, soldiers, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, civilians, dependents, and retirees across four installations including Charleston Air Force Base and Naval Weapons Station Charleston.
THE IDEA OF A SECESSION DEBATE IS A HUGE ADRENALINE SHOT FOR DEMOCRATS THIS FALL. THIS IS LOSE-LOSE FOR REPUBLICANS.

The response can be. “Look at the disarmed California getting ready to secede and give California to Mexico.”

Author and media consultant Peter Leyden and political commentator Ruy Teixeira argued in the article titled “The Great Lesson of California in America’s New Civil War” that America is already in the midst of a second major domestic conflict of sorts and the way out is for the rest of the country to imitate California.

And they could also replace the Washington welfare state with slavery. On welfare? Well, you get sold to a rich land owner, and work the land replacing illegal aliens. Why not fully go back to Civil War days?
Secession debate? More political whining and posturing for political reasons. It was like repeal Obamacare. It is something you don’t want to do, but you run you want to do it.
Nothing says treason more then saying you support secession.

Why doesn’t someone introduce a bill to expel California from the Union? They don’t want to obey federal law. Why should they be entitled to federal money? If South Carolina thinks other states will follow them, well, they did that once before and it didn’t work out so well.
