It sounds like the device actually made the call by accident, since “call the Sherriff” is what the machine heard. Most smart home devices need a “wake-up” word to activate the order first.
I have “Alexa” at home, and it occasionally get activated by a words or phrase that sounds something like “Alexa”. I have read that Alexa will record 30 seconds before the wake-up phrase for “quality control” purposes.
Remember, just about anything for your home with the word “smart” in the description, like refrigerators, TVs electric meters, records and transmits data outside the home.
You are never really alone.
