She used to humble brag about the guys that chased her and showered her with attention. On this particular day, she was about 30 pounds overweight, her hair was absolutely ragged, covered in acne, and she pulled up in a “new” 10-year-old beat-up used minivan that was literally rusting paint off.

I smiled, hugged the kid, sent him off as was my legal obligation, and spent the rest of the day just a little bit high from the karma.
