To me this speaks to a much broader issue. In today’s society, all you have to do is lie enough times and it gets taken as gospel. Even though it was proved that she lied, that she ruined this poor kid’s life, she gets a f~~~ing award because everyone knows who “mattress girl” is.

Has anyone here read An Officer and a Spy by Robert Harris? It’s a terrific book: it’s a historical novel that recounts the Dreyfus Affair (TL;DR a man is put in a prison on a desert island for, presumably, the rest of his life, because of prejudice and lies).

I believe the antagonists in that novel are some of the scariest in literature: they are characterized by a complete indifference to the truth. When presented with evidence that a miscarriage of justice has occurred in regard to this Jew, it’s not even a factor in their decision-making on how to proceed.

This is why I find these feminists so terrifying. From this feminist organization who supports mattress girl to the protesters during Jian Ghomeshi’s trial, it doesn’t matter that these women have been proven to be liars. The truth to them doesn’t matter.

In a way, they’re scarier than a lynch mob, since a lynch mob at least is explicit about their intentions.
