Is anyone else interested in them?

I’ve been shopping for a boat (maybe a J/35) and thinking of making some custom on-board equipment.

If it floats, flies, or f~~~s, STAY AWAY! Check CL they’re giving them away FREE W/trailer! Buy something that doesnn’t require 2 registrations and a s~~~load of maintenance and storage!

If I had one I would fill it with dirt and grow tomatoes in it!

How ’bout “If it floats, flies, f~~~s or has a mortgage and loose shingles, STAY AWAY!” ? 🙂

I wasn’t thinking of it primarily for fun – more as a ‘small floating/rolling apartment.’ The idea behind using an old racer is that it’s easier to get at the hull to add insulation.

Not planning to store it except at a slip or mooring while living in it. Not living in SoCal, so slips here are pretty cheap.

KTH- that’s my plan in a few years. Sell all my stuff and get a 36 foot island packet. Live off the hook and be a free man. Lots of books on the subject. Read Cap’n Fatty Goodlanders book “how to inexpensively and safely buy, outfit and sail a small vessel around the world”. True hardcore MGTOW s~~~ if you ask me, and not a woman on the horizon.

skip the cavernous vag and go your own way

You have taste 🙂 I can’t justify spending that much on my first boat, but I wish I could. There’s a Nicholson 43 for sale that I’m tempted to buy, but it’s cramped for its LOA and would be harder to modify down below.

“A boat is a hole in the water that you throw your money into”

I don’t mind tagging along while someone else uses their boat tho haha

If I could I would have a house boat made from a shipping container floated by millions of plastic bottles forming my own floating island! It’s been done!

    Define what you mean here?

When it comes to a RV or even a mobile home or van yes actually but the minute the term houseboat comes up i automatically think of this

    This

There was a 65′ Skipperliner houseboat for sale near me a year ago. It had a full kitchen and living room, French doors, chandeliers, a master bedroom with a king bed, 1 or 2 guest rooms, a diving platform at the bow and a spiral staircase leading up to a 40′ by 15′ sundeck on the roof. Very sharp looking boat inside and out. The seller wanted $60k, so I suspect the buyer had a full set of teeth (in contrast to the song). I’d prefer it to my sister’s condo hands-down, and might have bought it if I just wanted to cruise the inland river system.

(In fairness, boats like that are often called “river yachts” – especially when inviting girlfriends and hookers over.)

Not a bad idea. Another option would be to start with something lighter than a shipping container. You’re not stacking ten full containers on top of it, so it doesn’t need all of that vertical compression strength.

A used semi trailer goes for under $2k. The biggest aluminum ATV/snowmobile trailers are almost as big and would be more rust resistant. With less weight you wouldn’t need as many bottles and it would be more stable. Maybe not as good at stopping pistol rounds, though 🙂
