Rachel Maddow Declares She's Cheerleader for the American Media

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow thinks America is the midst of a “political crisis,” and only the media can “save us” from that crisis, which is President Trump and his administration.

During an interview featured on the cover of this month’s Rolling Stone, Maddow said she’s a “cheerleader for the American media” (with exception of Fox News, presumably) and declared that only the free press can save us:

“I am a cheerleader for the American media and I feel like the free press is going to be what saves us from the political crisis that we are in.

“We just need to keep doing what we’re doing.”

“Keep doing what we’re doing,” as Rolling Stone reporter Janet Reitman apparently saw it, means to keep asking a series of biased questions.

“Do you marvel at the degree to which the administration just blatantly lies?” asked Reitman. Maddow was all over it:

“I think it’s more helpful to take that information, the fact that the White House is putting out nonfactual information on a regular basis, and internalize it.

“What it means is there is a whole area of information coming from ‘White House sources’ that has no meaningful impact on what I understand to be true about the world.”

Maddow said the

“mantra” at MSNBC is “Don’t pay attention to what they say, focus on what they do,” which doesn’t seem to apply to the media’s obsession with Trump’s every tweet, incidentally.

Reitman asked Maddow about “the Russian story,” of which, she said, “You got on that very early and stuck with it.” She went off on Trump in March for nearly a half hour over the “scandal”:

As an interesting side note, I’ve noticed at my local watering hole that instead of one of the many TV monitors on the wall being tuned in to CNN, it’s now tuned to Fox instead. A cheerleader you say? Well that’s telling. Allow me to set the stage while you consider for a moment the mentality of a cheerleader. You’re in a massive arena with two teams of men applying a lifetime of commitment to a particular goal. You watch as they struggle against a myriad of obsticals which must be overcome to achieve victory. And what does a cheerleader do? Does she contribute anything constructive for “her” team? She does the only thing a woman can ever truly be good at. Dance around distracting the audiance flaunting the image of her sexuality in an effort to distract the spectators from what is actually happening.
