I’m a Texas-Ex. Graduated in the 90’s. There is a left-wing bent, but it doesn’t really define the whole school. Some departments are very much straight shooters, no pun intended. I should say there is little PC garbage in some departments. Serious profs just want you to study, pass, and go on. They have to focus on research and don’t have time for politics of any kind. Truthfully, there are a lot of cliques and faces to the school. There’s even a very large right-wing, traditional conservative element in the school. Many student groups, too, that can suck up your time. What great memories on the 40-Acres I have! A time I’ll always treasure. It has a reputation as a party school, but really if you wind up in it, you won’t be there long; they regularly kick people out since there is always someone else waiting to take their place. So the best thing of course is to buckle down, learn, pass, and get out with some good times but especially with a diploma and within 4 years. UT is bad about that (graduating in 4 years, I mean), but it can be done if you focus. My roommate did; it took me 5.
